Brown v. Board of Education
Brown v. Board of Education was a court case solving a problem in which a black girl was not allowed to go to a all white school five minutes away from her and was forced to go to a school that was thirty minutes away from her home. The court ruled to integrate the schools because it was ruled unconstitutional -
Montgomery bus boycott
Montgomery bus boycott was a peaceful protest that happened after Rosa Parks was arrested. She was arrested for not giving up her seat for a white man. The boycott ended after about a year. The court ruled to integrate buses for now on. -
Little Rock Highschool
Little Rock was integrated in 1957 and only 9 students went to the school. The governor Faubus tried to keep the black students out but the president Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered troops to watch and protect the black students. Still the black students faced a lot of torture. -
sit in campaigns
These is when black students would go sit in at lunch counters and wait there until they were served or be arrested by the police. THis was so effective because as soon as the people in there first were arrested they would have more people ready to go in the building. -
Freedom Riders
Freedom riders were African Americans and white civil rights activist.They would take bus trips through the south of United States.The group was confronted by police. Police arrested many Freedom riders but many whites showed a lot of violence toward the rider. -
Mississippi Riot
MIssissippi riot was about riot when the court ruled to allow a black man to go to a white school. The Black man's name was James H. Meredith. As soon as the court allowed the black man to attend the school riots broke out in the area. -
March on Washington
The march on Washington is when quarter of a million civil rights activists met at Lincoln memorial and heard Martin Luther King Jr. give his speech " I Have a Dream" -
Freedom summer
Freedom summer is when people wouldn't send their kids to a actual school they would make their own school. They would make schools in places like churches or back porches or met under a tree. -
Selma Montgomery March
This was a peaceful protest, which was a march to protest local resistance of not allowing black men to vote. The protesters were met with state troopers and patrolmen and were brutally treated awful. The march was captured on live tv. -
MLK Assassination
When MLK was assassinated riots were being aroused all across United States.Many believe that MLK was killed by the FBI trying to stop the Civil Rights movement
