13th Amendment Passed
Slavery was made illegal -
14th Amendment
Gave citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the United States. This amendment had a major impact on the civil rights movement. -
15th Amendment
This amendment gave African-Americans the right to vote, which further pushed other groups to strive for the same rights. This led to women's rights success. -
Plessy v. Ferguson
This case allowed for the "Separate but Equal" standard to rise, harming African-Americans everywhere. This decision allowed segregation to continue and also harmed the civil rights movement. Although it claimed to be equal, treatment and quality of facilities differed greatly. -
19th Amendment
This amendment prohibited voting discrimination due to gender. This greatly improved civil rights movements and allowed for women to finally receive suffrage. -

Brown v. Board of Education
This Supreme Court ruling said that separate did not mean equal and made it so that public schools were not segregated based on skin color. This sparked massive resistance in the states but also allowed for future civil rights acts to be passed. -
Equal Pay Act of 1963
An act of congress that banned wage discrimination based on religion, sex , race or origin. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This act made discrimination based on race, gender, origin, or religion illegal. This largely helped the civil rights movement. -
Title IX
Title IX made it so that no one was stopped from getting the benefits of any educational program or activity that had federal financial aid based on their gender. Women greatly benefited from this, allowing for them to be able to study and play sports and such. -
Obergefell v. Hodges
This Supreme Court case declared that same-sex marriage was legal in all 50 states. This case is a significant success for the LGBT community and allowed them to have the same rights as others.
