Briggs v. Elliot
It was one of the cases in South Carolina that tried to fight segregation in schools. It was one of many that helped in the Brown v Education case. Their case talked alot about the transportaion for colored studetns to school. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This was the case that was the master of all of the other segregation in school cases. It finally cancelled out segregation in ALL schools. I was a huge step in the direction of helping the colored get their rights. -
Bolling v. Sharpe
This case had to do with segregation in the district of colombia. They said that segreagation in public schools has nothing to do with a reasonable statement in the government. It makes negro children look like a burden and takes away their liberty. -
Montgomery bus boycott begins
This started right after Rosa Parks was arrested. African Americans refused to ride buses in order to gain awareness for segregation on buses. It took 11 months for the bus companies to realize how much money they were losing from not having African Americans on their buses. Finally, segregation was banned on buses. -
Rosa Parks arrested
This was the day a middle aged black woman by the name of Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white person. Parks was not violent in any way, but made a point. This point of why do colored people have to give away liberties for whites. -
SCLC is created by Martin Luther King
This is the Southern Christan Leadership Conference that Martin Luther King created. It was used to fight segregation and try to gain civil rights for colored people. It really helped with passing civil rights acts. -
School crisis with segregation in Little Rock
This crisis took place with 9 black students trying to go to an all white school in Little Rock Arkansas. This was a huge no to the community and the governer sent the state national guard to keep them out of school. This made the president angry and he let the U.S. National Guard take over and help the kids to and from school safely. -
Student Sit Ins
The first sit in happened on this date when 4 colored students from North Carolina College sat in the whites only part of a lunch counter. Even if they were arrested, another group of students would follow in what they did right after the cops left. It was a nonviolent protest that really brought attention to how the south was treating no

MLK writes his letter from prison
While Dr. King was imprisoned he wrote a letter that infulenced the whole civil rights movement. He was critisized by Christian and Jewish leaders. He decided to write a letter back pretty much explaining how great his ideas really are and how he hopes that they can become brothers in Christ someday when segregation is gone.

The March On Washington
More than 200,000 Americans gathered in Wasington DC to march for Jobs and freedom. This March was led my Martin Luther King and was mainly for shining light on the politicial and social rights of colored people. This leaded to King's " I Have a Dream " speech.

Congress passes the Civil Righs Act
This ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination. It also gave African Americans the right to vote. It was originally crated by JFK so LBJ confirmed it and tried his best to pass it. -
Harlem Race Riot

Loving v. Virginia
This case was brought on my Mildred and Richard Loving. Ironic last names considering this case was about mixed races getting married. This couple was arrested for marrying eachother because Mildred was a black woman and Richard was white. This case was succsesful and it was considered unconstitutional to not let them love who they want to love. -
Martni Luther King Jr. Assasitnated
Dr. King was shot to death in Memphis, Tenessee on April 4th 1968.He was shot by a man named James Earl Ray. It was a tragedy for so many. People were scared that the fight for civil rights wasn't going to continue now that this amazing leader was gone. -
Batson v. Kentucky
This case made it to where you couldn't let the prosecutor take out members of the jury due to race. It was against the 14th amendment of the constitution. This made court for colored people more fair.
