  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 freed the slaves . Issued by President Lincoln
  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment
    13th Amendment abolished slavery. In the Southern states however, were able to bring back slavery era codes. The codes created places where blacks could live,work, and be apart of society.
  • The 14th Amendment

    The 14th Amendment gave African Americans due process and equal protection under the law.
  • The 15th Amendment

    Former slaves and all blacks were given the rights to vote by the 15th Amendment.
  • Please VS. Ferguson

    In 1892 Homer Plessy was arrested for sitting in a white car. Homer in Louisiana could easily pass for a white man because of his skin complexion.
  • NAACP

    The NAACP ( The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ) was founded by Ida Wells-Barnett , W.E.B Dubious, and four others .Not all of these people were black.
  • Brown VS Board of Education

    This is one of the greatest decisions in the 20th century made by the supreme court. It was said that the segregation in public schools violated the 14th Amendment.
  • The kidnapping of Emmett Till

    Emmett Till was kidnapped on the 27th of August because he was accused of whistling at a white woman . He was beaten and tortured , shot , and dropped in the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi.
  • Bus Boycott

    On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white bus passenger. This incident lead to her arrest and the Montgomery bus boycott.
  • Baptist Church Bombing

    In Birmingham , Alabama, four girls were at a Sunday school at sixteenth Street Baptist Church when a bomb exploded and killed all four girls.
  • The 24th Amendment

    On the 23rd of January , the 24th Amendment abolished poll tax . It was already in 11 southern states . This made it difficult for blacks to vote.
  • Civil Rights Act Of 1964

    On the 2nd of July , the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed by President Johnson . This act prohibited all racial , color , religion discrimination.
