    White primary abolished, continuned
    Fianally, the judge ruled the White Primary unlawful and unconstitutional and it was abolished.
    It was abolished because blacks were getting taken advantage of by the whites. They still had the right to vote, it was just invalid which didn't correspond with the constitution.
  • White Primary is abolished

    Before World War II, the White Primary was set up to limit the voting rights of blacks. The black population was only allowed to vote in general elections, not primary, and because of that they had little say in who was leading them. The reason they had little say is because when the general votes were counted, the primary votes already were submitted and the winner was chosen. It kept on for a while until shortly after WWII black civil rights activists challeneged the white primary in court.

    Integration of Armed Forces
    President Harry Truman signed the Executive Order 9981 which stated that any race or person with any beliefs will have an equal chance at the armed forces and will be treated the same as other soldiers. He wanted to make everything equal, but it still went on secretly because it was never specified that segregation wasn't allowed.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education
    Oliver Brown and other parents tried to enroll their kids into and all white school. They were turned down because they were black, so they sued the board of education. The result was the court ruled that it was unconstitutional to have different races in different schools. Even though they said this schools were still segregated for years because they still had hatred for other races. This also overturned the Plessy vs Ferguson case.
  • Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
    This all started because an elderly black woman, Rosa Parks didn't stand up to let a white bus rider take her seat and was arrested. Because of this, the majority of the black community boycotted busses.They would get rides with friends, walk or drive their car to work. They wanted equal rights just like the white people. Eventually their plan worked, the segregation on buses were illegalized and blacks gained more freedom.

    The first changes made to the flag was to make it an old confederate flag. They wanted to show that they were still a part of the south. Later on the road many people saw it as racist and cruel, so they refused to use that flag. As a result of that feeling, in 2001 a new flag was created. This flag also stirred up problmes, but these problems were pointless. It took kids a while to draw the flag and it was ugly.

    This crisis was caused because of 9black students enrolled in Central High School right after the integration of schools. They tried to stop the black students from going to their classes and even inside the school.b The Little Rock Nine were just 9 black students who went through hardships through out the years at that school.

    Hebrew Benevolent Congregation in ATLbombed
    In the morning of October 12, 1958, a Jewish Temple was bombed because of the hatred towards Jews and Blacks. The group that blew up the building also threatened to explode other night clubs and whatnot if they didn't fire their black and Jewish workers.
  • Sibley Commission

    Sibley Commission
    The Sibley Commision was established to basically pass on the blame from the Georgia Assembly to the School Boards. It basically gave the schools a choice if they wanted to have their schools segregated or not. By doing this parents pulled out their kids and put them in private white, segregated schools.
  • Integration of UGA

    In 1961, UGA was integrated. With the desegregation of that, 2 black students, Hamilton Homes and Charlayne Hunter tried to get in the college, but everytime the applied they were turned down because the droms were supposedly too full. They sued the school and UGA was foced to admit them.
  • Freedom Rides

    This is when blacks rode buses across the south, using white only busses and bathrooms while getting beaten by whites. They were beat with bicycle chains, baseball bats and many other weapons just for small things such as using white reasturants, restrooms and other minor things. They were protesting the segregation in the south and tried to make their voices heard.
  • Albany Movement

    This was a nonviolent attack on every little piece of segregation in the city of Albany. There were numerous amounts of boycotts and everything that was originally used for whites, were being used by blacks as well. This happened in Albany, Georgia and many of the protestors were arrested non-violently. It was well planned out but the mass protest failed.
  • Birmingham Protests

    Blacks boycotted big companies in Birmingham, Alabama so that they would open employment to all races. When that didn't work, they did numerous sit-ins and mass protests to provoke the police to do mass arrests. Instead of just that, they were attacked and sprayed with high-pressure water guns. Also police dogs were let loose on them. Their mission was accomplished though because afterwards public places were more open to blacks. Also this brought national attention and sympathy to the blacks.

    The blacks, minorities and some whites were protesting about jobs and freedom. This is where Martin Luther King gave his great speech that gave power and increased faith in the movement.
  • 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham bombed

    16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham bombed
    This was an attack carried out by the Ku Klux Klan. Robert Chambliss was the one who set the sticks of dynamite and killed four little girls with the blast. He was trialed for murder and possessing sticks of dynamite without a permit. The murder charge was dropped and then brought up again in 1977. Then he served life in prison because of his faults.
  • John F. Kennedy assassignated

    John F. Kennedy assassignated
    John .F Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas.
  • Civi Rights Act Passed

    Civi Rights Act Passed
    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed racial segregation and gave blacks equal rights. Also ended discrimination towards women. It was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
  • Voting Rights Act

    When the United States banned the practice of discrimination of black voters. They didn't want there to be a qualification based on just your race. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it.

    He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennesee by a man named James Earl Ray. Atlanta had sighed a breath in relief because of his death.
