Brown V. Board of Education 1. Plessy V. Ferguson, the supreme court ruled that segregation was allowed and blacks and whites were "separate but equal". 2. The supreme court ruled on establishing laws for for separate doctrines etc, unconstitutional. -

Rosa Parks
Ont the day of December 1 she rode in the front of a Alabama bus and when told to move, she refused. 2. She was later arrested and put in jail. -
Little Rock, Arkansas
Nine African American students tried to enter the white high school of Little Rock but the national guard sent by Orval Faubus (Governor of Arkansas) didn't let them enter and a all white mob began to assault the black teens. Later the Government sent state troopers to help protect the black teens and get them inside the school. -
Civil Rights Act of 1957
This act was passed by Congress in order to protect civil rights. -
Freedom Riders
The Freedom Riders were Civil Activist who would ride buses in the south, they were mostly with African Americans but later some whites would join them. -
James Meredith
James Meredith enrolled at the school of Ole Miss and white teens and other whites began to riot on the school grounds. The government was involved when they sent state and federal troopers to handle the mobs. -
Medgar Evers Assassinated
Medgar Evers was a African American Civil Activist from Mississippi who worked to overturn segregation. When getting witnesses for the Emmett Till murder case, he was shot to death at the drive way of his home. -
March to Washington
On August 28, 1963 250,000 African Americans marched to Washington Lincoln Memorial for jobs and freedom. When there Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave the famous speech, "I have a dream." -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Congress passed this law and it banned segregation in public places and employment discrimination on the basis of color, race, religion, sex and origin. -
March to Selma
The reason for this march was to get black voters in the south. The marchers were met by violent resistance by state and local authorities there during and after the march. Later that year voting for blacks in the south was passed. -
Thurgood Marshall
He was a lawyer who was best known for his very high rate of success in arguing in court cases. This was a monumental event because he was the first African American Justice. -
Martin Luther King Jr Assassination
On Thursday April 4, 1968 6:05 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot on the second floor room of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. The impact of this was that it shocked the world and it led and outpouring of anger among the black Americans. This led to the equal housing bill being passed a lot quicker.
