  • Plessy vs. Ferguson

    Supreme Court ruled that segregation laws did not violate the 14th amendment as long as the facilities are equal, separate but equal
  • Brown vs.Board ofEducation

    browns daughter was not allowed to attend a public school because she was black so parents sued state for the right brought it uppp to the Supreme Court which ruled the "separate but equal" is unequal in itself and that school segregation had to stop
  • Rosa Park starts the Bus Boycott

    Rosa refused to give up her seat for a white man and got arrested. Friends heard about it and soon all of Montgomery's African American population was Boycotting the public Bus system in protest of the way they are treated on the buses. Set the Civil Rights Movement in motion
  • Bus Boycott over

    Supreme Court ruled that Alabama's state and local laws segregating buses were in violation of the Constitution and outlawed them
  • Little Rock Nine

    Federal judge ordered Little Rock, Arkansas to begin desegregation, but governor resisted order and when 9 students enrolled and tried to go to school, he sent militia troops to stop them from coming. The President sent military men to protect the African American sstudents
  • Greensboro Sit-In

  • Civil Rights Act

    the United States passed this act which forbade discrimination from happening anymore. Most South states disregarded the act and continued to descriminated against African Americans
  • Selma to Montgomery March

    600 people marched from Selma to Montgomery for the right ability for African Americans to vote. The march was a part of the Civil Rights Movement lead by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • 15th Amendment" Voting Rights Act established

    the United States passed the act that gave African Americans the right to vote, which is what they have been marching and protesting for.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated

    Martin Luther King was at Lorraine Motel when he was shot by a sniper. He wwas rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
