14th Amendment
-All citizens are equal.
-Guarantees that states may not interfere with U.S citizens.
-American Citizens all have equal laws/rights. -
15th Amendment
-All male citizens have the right to vote, regardless of race or color. -
Jim Crow Laws
-SEGREGATION!
-Whites were tough on blacks because of their color.
-African Americans didn't have the right to do much.
-Many things were seperated by whites, & "colored" (sinks, toilets, schools, neighborhoods, etc.) -
Plessy v. Ferguson
-Separate but equal.
-Supreme court ruiling supported the legal doctrine of segregation- legal to segregate so long as the facilities for African Americans and white were "equal" -
19th Amendment
-Guarantees suffrage to women.
(Right for woman to vote) -
Oliver Brown V. Board of Education
-Law that made desegregated schools.
-"Seperate but equal" rights.
-Segregation was unconstitutional overthrowing Plessy v. Ferguson.
-African Americans no longer had to walk a lot to go to an all black school. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
-Political and Social protest.
-The boycott caused the stations to almost run out of bussiness, black refused to ride the bus.
-Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat.
-MLK led the non-violent protest. (gpt fined and sent to jail)
-Segregated busses was unconstitutional. -
Sit-ins
-Black were not served in diners.
-Whites would torture the people that wouldn't move; by dumping things on them or even hitting them.
-Even if the person was white and sat with a black person they would suffer the consequences too.
-People were arrested.

26th Amendment
-Gives the right to vote to any citizen 18 years or older. (Vietnam War)
