Plessy Vs. Ferguson
This Supreme Court ruling supported the legal doctrine of segregation: "Separate but Equal". Basiclly it was legal to separate whites from blacks as long as the facilities were "equal". -
Desegregation Of The Armed Forces
President Harry Truman desegregated the Armed Forces through an executive order after World War II. -
Oliver Brown Vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas
In most southern states segregation was the law. This Supreme Court Case decided that segregation was unconstitutional overthrowing the 1896 Plessy Vs. Ferguson ruling that segregated everything under their motto : "Separate But Equal". -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Rosa Parks a 42 Year old black women was arrested for not wanting to give up her seat to a White Man. the following Night 50 leaders of the Negro community met up to discuss the issue and organize the Montgoemery Bus Boycott. 65% of the bus companys income would be deprived. -
Sit In's
A black student named Joseph McNeil went to a dinner and they refused to served him, he went back the next day wit 2 more people and they didnt leave until they were served. They drew attention in The New York Times and they wrote about them, they inspired both black and white college students to protest in the similar manner. -
Twenty-Fourth Amendment
The rights of citizens to vote for President, Vice-President, Senators, or Representative to Congress could not be denied or abridged (reduced) by paying a poll tax and Congress had the right to enforce this right. -
Civil Rights Act
Singned by President Lyndon Johnson. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 banned discrimination in emplyment based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. -
Voting Rights Act
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 put the entire registration process under federal control. This happened due to police attacking voters trying to register so they can vote. -
Twenty - Sixth Amendment
This amendment extended the right to vote to American citizens who were eighteen years old or older. This Amendment wa passed because 18 Year Old's were being drafted in the Vietnam War, they protested because they couldnt even vote yet they had to fight in a war. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibited discrimination against people with physical or mental disabilities in employment, transportation, telephone services, and access to public buildings.
