    Since there is no way to change the color of the text, I added a dash of -AA for African Americans, -Colored for it pertaining to more than one race, -Women for anything that affected/caused by women, -Chicanos for the chicano movement, and -Native for the group of natives. These are all the effected/caused by groups.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    This amendment was based on the rights of citizenship, due process of law, and equal protection of the law. As of today, the 14th amendment has become one of the most used amendments in court, regarding the equal protection clause.
  • 15th Amendment

    This amendment prohibits the federal government and state from denying a citizen to vote based on their race, color, or previous condition of servitude. -AA
  • NAACP Created

    NAACP Created
    The National Association of Advancement of Colored People stood for wanting justice for minorities. The association was founded by W.E.B. Du Bois and Ida B. Wells, who were both significant in leading the movement and supporting the advancement of colored people. -AA
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    This amendment gained women the right to vote after protests and allows citizens to vote of any sex. This affected the feminist community, as they finally gained the right to vote after fighting for it for so long. -Women
  • Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Proposed

    Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Proposed
    This was first proposed by the Women's political party, then passed, and stood for the end of discrimination based on gender and guaranteed all equal rights. The amendment benefited the women, as they are seen equal to men in rights. -Colored and Women
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    This was a significant event during the civil rights movement era, African Americans refused the seating arrangements on public buses, so they protested by refusing to ride city buses, so the buses eventually ended up being empty. This was an important boycott both socially and politically because it brought attention to the discrimination occurring. -AA

    Little Rock 9
    Nine African American students were denied enrollment in Little Rock Central High School because it was a racially segregated school, was caused by Brown v. Board of Education. -AA
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    Civil Rights Act of 1957
    President Dwight Eisenhower signed the new civil rights in place of the Civil Rights Act of 1875. This caused the civil rights division and prevented citizens from denying other's rights to vote.
  • Chicano Movement (Mural Movement)

    Chicano Movement (Mural Movement)
    Chicanos rallied for equality and wanted to act against discrimination in events such as education, employment, housing, and the legal system. The mural movement was significant in the fact that Chicano’s culture was spread, and it was a social outlet to the public. -Chicanos

    Freedom Riders
    A group of civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the southern United States as a protest. Their main goal was to desegregate public transportation such as bus stops, train terminals, and highways. -AA
  • Cesar Chavez

    Cesar Chavez
    He founded the United Farm Workers which gave farmers more equality and better working conditions. Later turned into a boycott to seek better pay, working conditions, and union recognition.
  • Dr. King’s: “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”

    Dr. King’s: “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”
    Martin Luther King’s famous letter from jail expressed how there was a way to end racism nonviolently and he used this letter to get the idea spread across to people saying there is hope, and to defend the nonviolent position. -AA
  • March on Washington: “I have a dream” speech

    March on Washington: “I have a dream” speech
    A public speech given by Dr. King where he wanted all racism to end and for equality for the colored, one of the most influential civil rights speeches. -AA
  • 24th Amendment

    The amendment prohibited any poll tax in elections for federal officials, changed the way poll taxes are illegal.

    A finalized law containing civil rights of citizens including equality of gender, race, and religion. Outlaws discrimination of others in the public. -AA and Women
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Prohibits racial discrimination in voting, allowed color people to participate in voting. -Colored
  • Black Panthers

    Black Panthers
    Organization of a militant group who preached self defense and promoted socials. Led by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale who believed violent revolution was the only way to receive freedom and was famous for police patrols and violent confrontations. -AA
  • MLK Assassinated

    MLK Assassinated
    MLKJ died because before his death, he was supporting black sanitation workers on strike for better pay and working conditions. -AA
  • American Indian Movement (AIM)

    American Indian Movement (AIM)
    Became a major force between the “Red Power” movement renewal of culture, to gain attention for issues of poverty and police brutality of Native Indians. Tactics used were occupations of wounded knee, alcatraz, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. -Native
