  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment
    Formally abolished slavery, drew boundary lines for the civil war.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    Rights of citizenship, due process of law, and equal protection of the law. The 14th amendment has become one of the most used amendments in court to date regarding the equal protection clause.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    Outlawed the prevention of voting on the basis of color, religion, or past servitude. Did NOT clear anything for women.
  • Tuskegee Institute created

    Tuskegee Institute created
    Founded by Lewis Adams and booker t, this was one of the first places blacks could go to receive higher education when it wasn't offered anywhere else.
  • Plessy V. Ferguson

    Plessy V. Ferguson
    This was the ⅛ train ride that led to the court decision of separate but equal. This meant that segregation was legalized and it led to a further rooting of segregation in the south.

    Founded by web dubois and many others to advance the circumstances of all colored folk.

    WOMEN CAN VOTEEEEEE. This amendment outlawed denial of right to vote based on sex.

    Essentially it was an unratified amendment that would outlaw legal rights based on gender and allow women more opportunities.

    Abolished discrimination in the armed forces and led to further advancement.

    In order to boycott the racial discrimination on public transport, african americans largely boycotted the busses and built their wn network for transportation in an attempt to stop discrimination.

    9 kids enrolled at little rock high in arkansas. They had to be escorted in by the national guard.

    created the commission of civil rights to ensure protection of civil rights

    nonviolent protests that consisted of sitting at spots, waiting to be served until they were.
  • SNCC formed

    helped to organize the freedom riders, the rest of their ideas are outlined in their names.

    Basically a movement based around latin empowerment and civil rights, they made a lot of murals.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    Civil rights people who rode busses around the deep south to try and spread the word of freedom and equality. It didn’t always end well.
  • Cesar Chavez

    Cesar Chavez
    Cesar was a man who’s primary contribution to civil rights was being the co-founder of the NFWA, a farmers work union based around providing rights to the many workers with no voice.
