Brown v. Board of Education
Linda Brown, an African American student that lived in was segregated against in her home town Springfield, Missouri and was forced to walk a mile every day to school just because of her race. On May 17th, 1954 the court ruled that it was a violation of the 14th amendment. -

Montgomery Bus Boycott
This was the protest that followed Rosa Parks being segregated against on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was not allowed to sit in the front of the bus because she was African-American. -
Little Rock Crisis
The governor of Arkansas prevented nine African American students from being accepted into Little Rock High School because it was racially segregated. They were later accepted into Little Rock High School and began school the following September. -

Hipster Bob Dylan became a major star and performed live at a peace protest in Greenwhich Village. He became an icon for the peaceful aspect of music to hippies. -
Fashion
The beehive hairstyle became incredibly popular, which was a very puffy and teased look. Even though the hairstyle was completely function-less, it was an iconic symbol of 1960's fashion. -
Hippies
An 89 year old man named Bertram Russell protested and led a march of over 20,000 people and a sit down protest of over 5,000 people outside the U.K. Defense Ministry. He was arrested for 7 days. -

This movement mainly focused on discrimination against women in the workplace. They were often denied jobs because they were thought to be inferior to men. -
Latino Movement
Eligio De La Garza, a Latino man from a small city was the first Latino elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. This was a very big moment for the Latino and Chicano community because most Hispanics were shunned and discriminated against. -

Many people began to dress, act, believe, and protest against "the norm" beginning around early 1964. Flower Power was a very powerful movement in the 60's. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Outlawing discrimination was the main purpose of this act. All discrimination against religion, sex, origin, color or race was banned. -

NAACP was very important during the time of Civil Right's Act and the Voting Rights Act. The NAACP worked year 'round to help people of color to get their rights back. -
NOW
There were 28 female leaders to this group similar to the NAACP for African Americans, which was used to get their rights back. One of the leaders was Betty Friedan. -
Black Power/ MLK Assassination
He was shot on April 4th, 1968 by a previous rapist and killer, James Earl Ray. He confessed to his crime later that month in court. -
Roe vs. Wade
Roe vs. Wade was a case debating on whether or not abortion should stay legal or not. This case was one of the most controversial of all time.
