Murder of Emmet Till
A 14 year old African American boy named Emmet Till was brutally murdered after a white woman claimed he whistled at her. Became known around the nation and a large motivator towards the Civil Rights Movement. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Political and social protest over racial segregation on public buses. Began after Rosa Parks was arrested and ended when the law finally changed declaring the previous law unconstitutional on December 20th 1956. -
Greensboro Sit In
Series of non-violent protests in the form of sit ins that took place in Greensboro, North Carolina. Caused the Woolworth department store chains to remove its racial segregation. The most popular series of sit ins that took place during the Civil Rights Movement. Ended in July 25th, 1960. -
Birmingham Children’s March
Thousands of children peacefully protested racial segregation in a walk to Birmingham. Many of the children were arrested and attacked. Fire hydrants were broken and many of the children were harmed during the protest. -
March on Washington
The March on Wahington for Jobs and Freedom was a march that took place in Washington, D.C. to advocate for civil and economic rights for African Americans. Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech there. -

Malcolm X Assassinated
Malcolm X was a civil rights activist and a big advocate for African American rights. He made a great impact on the movement. He was assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam while speaking at a rally of his organization in New York City. -
Voting Rights Act Of 1965
Act that was passed by President Lyndon B Johnson in an attempt to get rid of legal barriers that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote.
