    During the council of chalcedon they confirmed that Jesus was both full Man and full God laying to rest rumors that my have lead people to believe he was one or the other. The council also assigned equal honor to both the Church of Constantinople and the Church of Rome

    East-West Schism

    East-West Schism
    The schism was a spilt in the church between the latin and the orthodox and is said to have no one cause for happening. As the're were many events that lead to this such as Eastern bishops being replaced by Western bishops thus changing how liturgies were done outraging most Greeks. In retaliation Cerularius (a Greek man) closed latin churches in constantinople. The tension kept growing with more retaliation from both sides until it reached breaking point spliting the church in two.

    The black death
    The black death had many fearing both death and purgatory because of this many turned to indolgences which were a way of freeing oneself from purgatory. Indulgences were usual done through good deeds but during this time many with in the church started selling indulgences to peasent, which were promised exemption from sins, or freedom from purgitory. People thought that they might atone for their sins by having someone else do the penance for them for payment. As well as priest and bishops.

    Luther was a priest which had realised the problems within the church and was showing the problems to the catholic community as well as protesting agaisnt the chruches current way of doing things. He did this by nailing 95 these which were 95 statements reffering to the inconsistances in the church life and teachng.

    Reformation - peace of augsburg
    The peace of augsburg a way to settle the conflict within the Holy Roman Empire that had arisen from luther's reformation. Each German prince was given the right to choose wether Lutherism or Roman Catholic was to be the religion of his own land

    The council of trent
    This was a council to bring the people which had left Rome after the reformation. The council forbid all corupt practices amognst priest and fixed all problems in the church which lead to the beginning of the reformation. As well as defining the number and meaning of sacraments and emphasised the meaning of the Eucharist as christ's sacrifice.

Asserted that the pope as succesor of st peter has supreme power of the church. Has the power to infallible statements when teaching definitively that concerns faith or morals is to be believe by the whole church

    The church met to address some issues in the world that were present in world society after WWII such as the global horror at the violations of human freedom and dignity. This was the first council that had been covered by the media and was a turning point as they were now able connect to the whole world. This councils goal was to promote peace and unity among humanity unlike the past where the goal was to condemn a particle Hersey. As well as to update the church to adapt to the changing world
