The embargo Act of 1807 was when we refused to trade with England and France to maintain neutrality; but this created economic tension. -

This compromise made Missouri a "Slave State" and proclamied that no state obove the 36"30' would ever be a slave state. This created tention between the free states and the slave states. -

was ment to get people buying american goods, but it hurt the South, because they had to pay more for goods. This also meant that the British was not gaining Money which led to a deccreses in sales of cotton. This angered the south. -
The compromise of 1850
The results of the compromise where that California became a free state, slave trade was abolished in Washington D.C., and the Fugitive Slave Act was passed saying, slave catchers could enter North states and grab runaway slaves. It angered the Abolitionists. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was a novle witten by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Anti-slavery what the theam of the book, that talked about how slavery was wrong, but also talked about christian vlaues. This brough the issure of slavery out in to the open. -
The Kansas-Nebraska- Act
the results of this compromise where that Nebraska was to become a free state, and Kansas would be decided based off of popular sovereignty. This led to the Bleeding Kansas Events. -

John Brown Killed 5 pro-slavery supporters. The violence occured for 5 years (1855-1859). This was a Preview of the Civil War -
The Dred Scott
Dred Scott Lived in a free state but then moved to Missouri and felt that he should be emancipated. This created an uprising among the free backs. -
John Brown's raid
He led 21 men on a raid of the Federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, so that he could arm the slaves and led an uprising. he was stopped by farmers, militia men, and maines led by Robert E. Lee. John Brown was tired, convicted and hung for his crimes. -
The Election of 1860
Candiant John C. Breckinridge was a pro-slavery, he joined the confederate army. Stephen A. Douglas was a slave owner. Abrham Lincion won the election, and was an abolitionist. Had lincion not won the Civil War would have been delayed. -
South Carolina Seceded
the confedericy shot at a civilian shipping boat on its way to Fort Sumter. The confedericy Bombing began in April 1861. Mississippi Seceded a few weeks after South Carolina, and by Feb. 4th 7 states had seceded. This was the Start of the Civil War.
