Drought in China
As the drought came to a finish, my family was very unfortunate during this time. Our successful farm was hindered and we soon fell into poverty. My father now was headed to America in hopes of making money to send back to us. -
Mother, Brother and I move to America
After receiving numerous letters from my father about promised jobs and new land in the west, my mother, younger brother and I immigrate to America. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
The Chinese Exclusion act was passed in 1882, which discontinued Chinese immigration for ten years. With this came worse discrimination than before; including lower wages and co-workers refusing to work with our race. -
Whites stormed trough community killing Chinese
In 1885, angry whites marched through our part of town and killed 28 Chinese immigrants. -
Urban Disaster
Resulting from so many people and structures being packed together, an earthquake hit San Francisco. This natural disaster killed close to 700 people and demolished the business district.
