The first leader was Zhu Yaunzhang. He was a monk before going into the military and when he became emperor he changed his name to Hong Wu. Named his dynasty ming meaning "brilliant". -

Sui Dynasty
This Dynasty lasted only 40 years but the first emperor Yang Jian established the basis of chinese empires. -
Tang Dynasty
After peasant rebellions Li Yaun took control of of the country and made himself emperor. Under the new Tang dynasty the emperor expanded its borders and added new territories. -
Song dynasty
Zhao Kuangyin was a military leader who seized the throne. The song rulers kept peace with the mongols by paying them. -
