    Sui Dynasty Begins

    In the 580s the Sui Dynasty emerged, it was written off as unimportant. After Wendi became emperor and expanded his power, he conquered the Chen kingdom. This was change as the dynasty was new.

    Thesis

    In China from 589AD to 1644AD, power was constantly shifting between different groups and people. Although there was some continuity in Empress Wu and Emperor Wuzong, who followed their predecessors ideas of Buddhism, the majority of new dynasties and emperors adopted new ideas and changed politics, such as the Mongols, who changed the class system in China, and Yangdi, who liked luxury over politics unlike his father.

    Yangdi is Assassinated

    Yanghi came to power after he killed Wendi, his father. After losing support and control of his subjects, he was assassinated. This is change as it marked the beginning of the Tand Dynasty, and end of the Sui Dynasty.

    Rule of Empress Wu

    During her rule she helped Buddhism become more widely used. She commissioned many Buddhist buildings and even tried to make it the state religion. This is continuation as emperors before her had also expanded Buddhism.

    Rule of Emperor Wuzong

    During Emperor Wuzong's rule, he tried to disband Buddhism. Buddhist structures were destroyed and those working in monasteries were forced to leave. This is continuity as the Tang Dynasty had been increasingly against Buddhism before Emperor Wuzong became emperor.

    Song Dynasty Begins

    53 years after the Tang Dynasty disbanded, Zhao Kuangyin became emperor due to popular support. He was renamed Emperor Taizu and united much of China. This is change as a new dynasty has replaced an old one.

    Wang Anshi Reforms

    In order to hold of the collapse of the Song Dynasty, Wang Anshi taxed landlords and scholars and launched irigation projects. His reforms were strongly opposed. This is change as the reforms are new.

    Southern Song Dynasty

    After being invaded, the Song Dynasty moved to Hangzhou. The Song Dynasty continued as a small state with less power and land. This is change as the Song Dynasty has lost power.

    China conquered by mongols

    When Ogedei became great khan, the Mongols started to move into China again. Kublai Khan led the attacks and helped conquer south China. This was continuity as the Mongols had always conquered countries.

    Youn Dynasty

    The Youn Dynasty was started by Kublai Khan when he was advised to make the name of his regime more Chinease. It fell when the Mongol rulers became soft and revolt sprang up. This is a change as a new empire was introduced.

    Ming Dynasty

    This dynasty focused on expansion after taking Beijing. They continued pushing the Mongols from China and reconnected with other countries. This is change as a new dynasty was established.
