Xia Dynasty
First government to emerge in ancient China, which also was the first dynastic succession, making it the first dynasty of China. There is once believed to be a great ruler named Huang-ti. Huang-ti was succeeded by his grandson Zhuanxu, which is one of the famous five emperors, that founded the Xia Tribe.

1600 BCE
Shang Dynasty
The Shang Dynasty was the second dynasty of China, which succeeded to the Xia Dynasty, which was from 2100 B.C to just about when the Shang Dynasty started, and when the Xia tyrant Jie was overthrown by the leader of the Shang. Although the Shang lasted nearly 600 years, it got overthrown by the king of the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu in 1046 B.C. The bronze age also started during this time. -

Zhou Dynasty
The Zhou Dynasty started when they overruled the Shang Dynasty in 1046 B.C. The Zhou was the longest lasting of all of China's dynasties. Zhou was based in the Wei River valley. The Zhou formed alliances with neighboring states. The Zhou had a very powerful dynasty and a lot of events unfolded during this time.

600 BCE
Daoism
Daoism was a philosophy and tradition that shaped Chinese life for more than two thousand years. A Daoist attitude towards life can be seen in the accepting and yielding. the joyful and carefree sides of the Chinese character, an attitude that offsets and complements the moral and duty-conscious. Daoism has many opinions on man and the way they do things. -
566 BCE
Buddhism
Buddhism is a major global religion that has a complex history and system of beliefs. Historians estimate that the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama, lived from 566 to 480 B.C. Buddhism had four nobles truths, and they also believe in good and bad karma in life based upon one's actions throughout their life, if one does bad, bad should happen back to them and if one does good, good should happen back to them in any different walk of life. -
551 BCE
Confucius
During the spring and autumn periods of the Zhou Dynasty, there were many states that were in China. Rulers of these states gathered officials and advisors at their courts, Confucius was one of these men. He tried to persuade people to do good in life, and accept the traditional social roles that had existed in the golden days of the early Zhou. -
500 BCE
Confucianism
Confucianism is a religion created by Confucius that lived from the 5th century B.C to the 4th century B.C. Confucianism had deeply impacted China in multiple ways, some being spiritual and political. The religion concerned itself primarily with ethical principals on life. The religion did not prescribe any practices as one would expect. -
475 BCE
Legalism
Legalism in ancient China was a philosophical belief that human beings are more inclined to do wrong than right because they are motivated entirely by self-interest. China adopted this belief around 475 B.C. Legalism led to many beliefs and practices, all based on controlling population and other things. The first dynasty to use this practice was the Qin Dynasty. -
Chinese Culture and Religion
Chinese culture and religion have changed much over the years, all being impacted by its past, all of the dynasties, and all of the religions that were practiced during these times. Everything that hap happened and that will happen shapes the way China will be and has been, and it will continue to change as time passes. -
