    Begging in 1600 BC, the shang dynasty lasted almost 500 years, being demolished in 1100 BC. Much like the Xia Dynasty, the Shang Dynasty had around 13.5 million people involved. During that time there were 33 rulers of the Dynasty. The final king murdered his son, and his followers turned against him and he was defeated.

    About 9000 years ago, rice originated in China. It was grown in the Yangtze Valley, and is now eaten worldwide. The reason the rice grew well on the Yangtze River, was because to grow rice, it needs to be surrounded by water. Rice is grown on grass-like plants.

    Soy sauce originated in China about 2500 years ago by Buddhist monks. Originally, it was not used as a sauce, but the plant was used to refine meals. Soy sauce is mainly used for rice, another Chinese plant, but can also be used for other food.

    Starting in 221 BC, the Great Wall of China has long since protected China for thousands of years. It took 15 years to complete the Great Wall of China. Completed in 206 BC, the Great Wall of China is about 5,000 km, 15 to 30 feet thick, and about 25 feet tall.The emperor of China, Qin Shi Huangdi, ordered the Great Wall to be built. In Chinese, it is known as "Wan-Li Qang-Qeng".

    Xia Dynasty The Xia dynasty lasted from 2205 BC- 1600 BC. With their ruler originally King Yu, there were around 13.5 million people in the Xia Dynasty. The Xia Dynasty was the first to irrigate, and create cast bronze.

    Chinese Inventions
    Around 200 AD, Chinese scientists mixed sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter, creating gunpowder. Gunpowder was used in rockets on bamboo tubes and was shot at the enemy, and exploded on contact. Eventually, the rockets were attached to arrows and shot with a bow.

    In the 600's, porcelain was invented in China. What many of us take for granted, most toilets in America are porcelain. To make this, Tao-Yue supposedly went to the Yangzte River and used "white clay" or "kaolin" to create it, but not all believe that.

    China is home to part of the tallest Mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. It is over 8,840 meters above sea level, and is one of the most well known mountains. Many visitors climb it every year, but many do not make it back down.
