San martin switched and started fighting against Spain.
Realized that they should be fighting for themselves and stopped fighting French. They then stopped fighting French and turned to fight the Spanish instead. -

There was an army of about 2,500 men that tried to cross. They used boats made out of cowhide in order to cross and lots of them died of hypothermia. -
