Month One
Tiny limb buds appear, which will grow into arms and legs. The heart and lungs form, and by the 22nd day, the heart starts to beat. The neural tube forms, which becomes the brain and spinal cord. Your baby will be about 1/4 inch long at the end of the first month. -
Month Three
Skin and fingernails begin to grow. Changes triggered by hormones begin to make external sex organs appear female or male. The fetus begins making spontaneous movements, and the kidneys start making urine. -
Month One

Month Four
Month four is around when the 2nd trimester begins(14 weeks). The baby's hair begins to grow and so is the roof of their mouth. The baby begins to suck the thumb, the nervous system is starting to function at this point in pregnancy. -
Month Two
By month two the baby has started to move around very little but the mother cannot feel it. The neural pathways are starting to form, as well as the breathing tubes extending to the developing lungs. -
Month Five
Since this is when your baby starts putting on fat, you'll feel lots of movement. Their hair is also growing. Soft hair, known as lanugo, forms on their shoulders and back to help with temperature regulation. In addition, vernix caseosa is forming. -
Month Six
By six months the baby is somewhere between 7-10 inches in length and 1-2 pounds. The baby has fully developed lungs and a unique set of their fingerprints. The baby starts to focus on the sounds outside of the uterus. -
Month Seven
The third trimester begins in month 7 of pregnancy(28 weeks). The fetus continues to produce more fat and eyelids are fused and will not change for a couple of weeks. -
Month Eight
During month 8 of pregnancy your baby is about 11 inches long. The tiny hairs called lanugo start to now fall off. This is also when the final steps of growing the organs begins to finish up. -
Month Nine
The fetus is continuing to grow and mature. The lungs are close to being fully developed at this point. The ninth month is mostly about putting the finishing touch on growth and brain development.
