    Birth and Journey to america
    I’m excited I see the shoreline of America we are almost there! Me and my family my mother, father and 5 year old brother are traveling to America for the chance of a better live. Back in the city of Xi’an china my dad worked as a laborer and my mom a servant. We were very poor and when one of father’s friends told him about America and the hope of a better live for him and his children he took it. This is the most exited I have been my whole life.

    We arrived at what they call angel island were we will have to pass through to get to the main land. We hurried off the boat and into the building were we entered the building. When we got their we have to what a couple a couple of days on the island, I didn’t mind because It was sort of fun their because it had swings that me and my brother used.

    Working on the railroad has been tough. We are all very tired from working from sun up to sun down. Father and I have been working on this railroad for more than a year now. We have been laying down the tracks ever since this massive project to connect the east and west stared. We are grateful for the pay were getting it supports our family.

    Chinese American contribution to Transcontinental Railroad Digging through the Serra’s is very dangerous for all the workers that are working on the railroad tunnels. We use this new substance that is 10 times more explosive than dynamite. Other worker don’t want to get any were near this but we take the risk, because we have to make money for our family. I’m the unlucky guy that gets to light the fuse, and book it out of the tunnel before it explodes.

    The year of 1882 brought great sorrow to me and my family, because of the law the government passed that opposed Chinese from entering this country. By this time I was married and had a family of my own I worked in the mines to earn our living. I had just saved enough money to send for my wife’s cousin, but now I can’t do that. I feel like the only people I can talk to is my fellow Chinese citizens. The people looked down on use for taking their jobs we can’t help it we need to survive. .

    The Great 1906 San Francisco EarthquakeThe earthquake we just had was horrible, I was at work in my small shop one moment everything was fine the next everything is shaking and falling down. I ran out on the streets to help my family how were at home. As I neared my house I saw that it was on fire! I found my wife on the floor unconscious I picked her up using all the strength I had and carried her out. When we made it outside we saw hundreds of people with the same situation. Thank God we made it through that.
