  • Herold Deserts

    After William Bell comes out and yells murder into the street, David Herold knows something has gone wrong. He finally decides to run when Fanny Seward opens the window and starts screaming into the street, as well.
  • Lincoln is Shot

    Lincoln is Shot
    Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln and two guests go to Ford's Theater. Lincoln is shot in the head by actor John Wilkes Booth. "The black powder charge exploded and spit the bullet toward Lincoln's head."
  • Booth is Injured

    John Wilkes Booth jumps from the President's Box after shooting the President, injuring his ankle in the process.
  • Seward's Attempted Assassination

    Seward's Attempted Assassination
    Accomplices of Booth Lewis Powell and David Herold attempt to assassinate Secretary of State, William Seward. Powell fails, only injuring Seward. "I am not dead; send for a doctor, send for the police, close the house."
  • Booth Escapes

    Booth, after shooting Lincoln, hurries outside where his horse is waiting. He is almost stoped by Joseph Stewart, who runs after him. However, Booth escapes into the streets. "He had escaped Ford's Theatre - barely."
  • Confusion

    People argue over who was assassinated, and where. Some say Lincoln at Ford's, some say Seward in his own house. "Then the terrible truth emerged: it was both."

    Back at the Seward household, Fanny and Seargeant Robinson try to keep Seward alive until help can arrive. "If they could stop the bleeding until a doctor arrived, he might live."

    On the Run
    After stopping at John Lloyd's tavern to pick up Booth's packages, Booth and Herold decide Booth needs a doctor for his leg. They ride to Dr. Samuel Mudd's farm, where they're given a place for the night and Booth's leg is looked at.
  • Lincoln Dies

    Abraham Lincoln dies after being shot in the head. "Abraham Lincoln took his last breath. His heart stopped beating at 7:22 and 10 seconds."
  • Clues

    Clues
    Less than an hour before Lincoln's death, George Atzerodt wakes up and goes walking. He throws his knife into a gutter, where it was spotted and reported to the police.
  • Keeping Secrets

    Samuel Mudd finds out who the two men at his house are, and what they have done. He doesn't say anything, though, and shows them where they can go for more help.
  • Help

    Booth and Herold arrive at Captain Cox's door, a loyal Confederate. He helps them make a plan and gives them food, as well as a place to hide. "Father and son saw the murderer and his accomplice and decided to help them."
  • Ignored

    Ignored
    Dr. Mudd decides he will report that he had strangers at his house the night before. The clus is cast aside, and the one thing that could have ended the hunt earlier was ignored.
  • Mistakes

    When the manhunters came to search Mary Surratt's house, Lewis Powell shows up on the dorstep, claiming to the soldiers he is digging a gutter for her. When asked, she says she has never seen him before. Powell decides to come without a fight, and was arrested along with others in the house. "If Lewis Powell had not wandered into the government's hands this night, he might have escaped Washington and vanished from history."
  • Arrested

    Arrested
    Three more people are arrested. Edman Spangler, for holding Booth's horses reins, and Sam Arnold and Michael O'Laughlen, for having involvement in earlier plans to kidnap the president. This is so far the most successful day in the manhunt.
  • Realization

    Booth finally gets to read what people have to say about his crime when Jones brings him a newpaper, but is shocked by what he reads. Every paper reveals that it was Booth who killed Lincoln, and changes how readers saw Lincoln. "Lincoln was transformed from a controcersial and often unpopular war leader into a martyr and hero."
  • Old Tips

    Old Tips
    After having nothing to go on, a calvary officer decided to see what Dr. Mudd had to say. He went to question Mudd, who attempted to send him on a wild chase. Mudd didn't realize he had now sealed his fate by both knowingly helping Booth, and then by lying about his whereabouts. The officer decided he was guilty of something, and concluded he would arrest him later.
  • Coming Clean

    George Atzerodt is arrested, and he tells his questioners everthing. After learning what Atzerodt knows, they put up signs for the assassins. "A reward was posted offering $100,000 - an enormous sum - for Lincoln's killers. The poster included photos of Booth, Herold, and John surratt, the most wanted men in the country."
  • Now or Never

    Now or Never
    After having waited in the pine thicket for four nights, Thomas Jones comes to get Booth and Herold. They hurried to Jones's farm, where they ate. They then went to their crossing point and were on their way to Virginia.
  • Half Truths

    Samuel Mudd is questioned again, and becomes worried that they will soon realize what he is doing. He decides to give more details about Booth, and reveals that he had met him before. After further pressing, he admits that it was Booth at his farm, but that he just didn't realize until then. "Unintentionally or unknowingly, Mudd claimed, he had helped him escape."
  • Virginia

    AFter having landed in the wrong place, Booth and Herold finally get to their destination. They bounced from place to place, until they arrived at Richard Garret's home. Booth stayed for one night, and the next day intended to stay another. He aroused the suspiscion of the Garret's when he hid from Union soldiers riding through. "If Booth's agitation about the riders worried Garret, his flight into the woods with Herold frightened him even more."
  • Booth is Shot

    Booth is Shot
    The Union finally catches up with Booth. When he refuses to come out, he is shot by Boston Corbet. Booth dies later that day.
