    Powell tries to sneak into the Secretary of State's house and attempts to murder but however, he is unsuccessful and only slashed his face.

    Herold leaves Powell
    While Powell is in Sewards house, Herold, who accompanied Powell to show Powell where to go, notices that they are in trouble and Herold leaves Powell almost to for his doom.
  • Atzerodt leaves the hotel

    Atzerodt leaves the hotel
    Atzerodt, being the planned assassin of Vice President Johnson, was sitting in the hotel. After thinking about it, he decided to abandon his mission and leave.
  • Stanton Takes Control

    Shortly after Lincoln was put into the Peterson home, Edwin Stanton took over the control of the manhunt to find Booth
  • Stay at Mudd's

    Stay at Mudd's
    The fugitives, in search of food and hospitality, stay at a local confederate supporters house in Maryland for a couple of days.
  • Conspirators Meeting

    Conspirators Meeting
    Booth meets with his fellow conspirators at 8:00 pm to dicuss plan to kill President Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William Seward.
  • Arrival

    At 8:30 pm, the Lincolns, who were running late for the play, arrive at Ford's Theater.
  • Booth escapes

    Booth escapes
    After Booth out ran the angered people viewing the play, he was able to escape the theater. He then found his horse and road off very fast. After that, he was able to convince a guard at a bridge to let him ride into Maryland which was the safest thing for him.
  • Lincoln Dies

    Lincoln Dies
    At 7:22 am, President Lincoln took his last breathes and ultimately passed away. It was one of the most tragic deaths in our nation's history.
  • Thomas Jones

    Thomas Jones
    Thomas Jones, a loyal confederate, helped Booth and Herold out for four days. He gave them newspapers and food. After four days, he helped them set out across the Potomac River, although they went the wrong way into Northern Maryland, rather than go into Virginia.
  • Powell and Atzerodt Arrests

    Powell and Atzerodt Arrests
    On April 17, Lewis Powell arrived at the Suratt boarding house. Unfortunately for him, the cops were already there and he was arrested. Mary Suratt was also arrested that night. On April 20, George Atzerodt was arrested at his cousins home. All were sentenced to death by hanging.

    When Thomas Jones helped Booth and Herold cross the river, he thought they had escaped. However, Booth and Herold went the wrong direction and headed North rather than South. They were forced to stay another night in Maryland.

    Samuel Mudd thought he was safe from being caught. He was well wrong.Confederate soldiers would come to his house and question him. He would ultimately be found guilty and imprisoned but was later released.
  • Jett, Ruggles, and Bainbridge

    Jett, Ruggles, and Bainbridge
    Three confederate soldiers helped Booth cross a ferry one night. From there, they would take them to Garrett's farm.
  • Arrival at Garrett's Farm

    Arrival at Garrett's Farm
    Once the fugitives crossed into Virginia, there was a couple of confederate loyalist that didn't help them out the way they wanted. However, they finally found a place to stay at the Garrett Farm
  • Herold and Booth are Trapped

    Herold and Booth are Trapped
    After staying at the Garrett house the first night alone, Booth asked if Herold could stay as well. The Garrett's didn't like that idea but the criminals refused to leave and ultimately slept in the tobacco barn. The Garrett's felt that Booth and Herold were planning to steal their horses in the middle of the night so they locked the two in the barn with no where to get out.
  • Herold Surrenders

    In the very early hours of the morning, Booth was awoken by the sound of Yankee Cavalry. Him and Herold, knowing they didn't have much time, hurried to the door to leave. When they figure out that they are locked they begin to panic. David Herold, feeling he didn't really do anything, gave himself up thinking he could talk his way out of it.
  • Booth is Shot

    Booth is Shot
    With Booth trapped and injured, the cavalry could have just charged in. Instead, they stalled. They set fired to the barn hoping they Booth would run out. Instead he stood there. Then, Boston Corbett, a soldier there, shot Booth through the cracks in the wood. Booth would die in the following hours
  • Conspirators are Hung

    Conspirators are Hung
    Booth's Co-Conspirators and accomplices Mary Surratt, David Herold, Lewis Powell, and George Atzerodt are hung to death on July 7 after there long trials.
