Charles Drew
On April 1st, 1950 Dr. Drew was killed in a car accident. He never made much money but was a generous man. He made great contributions to medicine and taught and helped to certify hundred of black surgeons -

Graduated from Dunbar Highschool. -

Graduated from Amherst College. He became know for his athletic achievements in track and football which earned him the Moss Man Trophy as the man who contributed most to athletics for 4 years. -
Becomes a Doctor of Medicine
He received his M.D degree. -
Becoming a Faculty Instructor
He becomes a faculty instructor in pathology at Howard University. -
Rockefeller Fellowship
Charles Drew is awarded a 2 year Rockefeller Fellowship in surgery and begins his post graduate work earning his Doctor in Science in Surgery. He writes a doctoral thesis called "Banked Blood: A Study In Blood Preservation" -
Marriage
He gets married to Minnie Lenore Robbins and has 4 kids. -
Director of the First American Red Cross Blood Bank
Dr. Drew was appointed director of the first American Red Cross Blood Bank in charge of blood for use by the U.S Army and Navy. He resigned this position after the war department sent out a directive stating that blood taken from white donors should not be mixed with that of black donors. -
Spingarn Medal
In 1944 Charles received the Spingarn medal from the NAACP "Nation Association for the Advancement of Colored People" for his work on British and American Projects.
