When Pepin died, his kingdom was given to his sons, Charlemagne and Carloman. Charlemagne and Carloman shared the kingdom, with dual kings. -
Charlemagne is crowned Emperor of Rome
After helping Pope Leo the third, the counci of Rome thought well of him, and offered him the role of the Emperor. He accepted it and was crowned on Christmas Day in 800. -
