  • Land Ordinance

    Land Ordinance of 1775 creates plan for surveying and selling land in the Northwest Territory
  • Congress adopts Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation was proven insufficient to govern the new nation. Delegates from 12 states met at the constitutional convention in Philadelphia and created a new, stronger form of government, which has endured for more then 200 years
  • Captain james cook

    Captain James cook was a British explorer who landed in Hawaii, he met sandwich Islanders.
  • Dividing Western Lands

    Thomas Jefferson came up with a proposal to divide the Northwest Territory of the Ohio river into 10 districts. When any of the districts reached 20,000 they were able to send a Representative to congress.
  • Russian settlement

    Russians settle in Aleutian islands of present day Alaska in 1784.
  • The Federalist Papers

    The Federalist Papers discussed and defended each part of the constitution. The mail goal of the essays was to persuade New York delegates to ratify the document by explaining the advantages it would bring.
  • The Northwest Ordinance law

    The law was meant to encourage orderly settlement and the formation of new states, all controlled by law.
  • Delegates arrived in Philadelphia

    Only a few delegates arrived in Philadelphia on may 14, the day of the constitutional convention was scheduled to begin. Traveling to Philadelphia took the delegates several weeks.
