No taxation without representation
This is a slogan that was started by the Colonist when Great Britain gave them taxes without their say in it. No taxation without representation was basically the colonist outcry because they had nobody to represent them through Parliament. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by the British parliament on March 22, 1765. This act required the colonist to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Legal documents, licenses, newspapers, playing cards, and other publications were taxed. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was an Act that Great Britain put on the colonist. This act taxed tea and forced the colonist to buy the tea from the East India Company. -
Tea Party
The Boston Tea party was a rebel by the Sons of Liberty where they dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped 342 chest of East India Company’s tea into the Boston Harbor. The Sons of Liberty did this to protest the tax Great Britain put on tea. -
Coercive Act
The Coercive act was placed on the colonist as a punishment after the Boston Tea party. The Colonist referred to this act as the “Intolerable Acts” because they said they were too harsh. This act shut down the Boston Harbor until the colonist payed for all of the tea that was dumped into the harbor. -
First Continental Congress
The first continental congress met to talk about the Intolerable Act that Great Britain had put on the colonist. During this meeting, they decided to boycott British goods. -
Second continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress first met when the British came to Boston and attempted to arrest patriots for saying they were unhappy about the British rule. The Second Continental congress decided they wanted to become independent from Great Britain. -
Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War was when the colonist in America rebelled against Great Britain. There were several battles fought and the colonies got their freedom and became the Unites States of America. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. The letter stated that the colonist wanted to separate themselves from Great Britain and the reasons why they wanted to do so.
