Ralph and Piggy Meet
A fair-haired boy, Ralph, meets a chubby intellectual named Piggy at the lagoon. The reader learns from the boys' conversation that during the midst of war their plane was shot down over the ocean and that the British school boys crash landed on a deserted island. From the wreckage ('the scar" as it's referred to by the narrator), it appears as though most have died, including the pilots.
