    1865 Restoring the Union
    Following the assassination of Pres.Lincoln, Pres.Johnson ratified the 13th Amendment and pardoned the Southern redeemers to haste the reintegration of the south to the Union, marking the end of Reconstruction Era in 1866. It also marked the end of the American Indian civilization in the Manifest Destiny. Civil Rights Act and 14th Amendment were pushed by Radical Republicans. This was the effort to end slavery in the South.
  • Compromise of 1877

    Compromise of 1877
    There was a dispute on the presidential election of 1876 which resulted the pull out of troops from the South. The compromise involved Democrats who controlled the House of Representatives allowing the decision of the Electoral Commission to take effect.Republican Senate leaders worked with Democrat leaders to add control to the southern states and formed the ‘Solid South' controlled by the 'Redeemers' and eventually was the end of the Reconstruction Era.

    World Columbian Exposition and the Chicago’s World Fair opened the era of explosion of new inventions, architecture, design and a showcase of enterpreneur spirit in the country’s success of the industrial world. Urbanization grew rapidly with telephones, telegraph, electricity, intracity-transport, rise of skycrapers and the City Beautiful. This also lead to ‘The Great Migration’ from the South and influx of the Eastern European immigration. A New American Consumer Culture begun.

    American imperialism is the economic, military and cultural philosophy that the United States, imposed on foreign countries.At the end of the century,under Pres.Theodore Roosevelt, he continued the Progressive ideology, where the federal government pursued their agendas for a better America.US imposed the American policy to other nations. Muckrakers were Progressive investigators exposing the corruptions and social injustice and encouraged the public to get involved in the political matters.

    Pres. Wilson took his New Freedom agenda to the Congress, on how to regulate the banks and businesses, lower the tariff rates for international trades and increase competitions for consumers’ interest. Wilson was coerced to join The First World War and had the US helped the allies, whereby US needed to expand the army’s resources and forces. Due to the war, Congress passed the Selective Service Act in 1917, which required all men aged twenty-one and above to register for draft.

    The post-war era and he ending of the Great Depression begins with an increased prosperity that gave Americans more disposable income to spend on entertainment, in which jazz music and dance styles became popular, mainly in the United States.The Jazz Age is often referred to in conjunction with the Roaring Twenties. The first release in New York of audible movie was The Jazz Singer. Rebellious American youths embraced a new morality trend and he older generation trend was forgotten.
