Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a tax put on sugar products by the Parliament that the colonists had to pay. The colonists had to pay the taxes to Britian. So Britian could pay off their debt during the French and Indian War.The sugar act was active in the colonies. -
Committees of Correspondence
The Commitees of Correspondence were shadow governments organized by Patriot leaders. They started the Commitees of Congress for each colony. The Commitees of Correspondence started in Philadelphia, PA. During the Revolutionary War the Comittees interpereted what Britian's intentions vs what their actions were. -
Stamp Act
The Parliament passed another tax on all paper products such as stamps, paper, magazines, newspaper. The colonists payed for the troops, that the British had stationed in North America during the French and Indian War. The colonies created the Stamp Act Committee to appease the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was passed in the colonies. -
Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty were American patriots that were lead by Samuel Adams. They originated pre-independence North America. They were created to protect the rights of the colonists.They started in Britians original 13 colonies. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Acts were acts/taxes named by Charles Townshend, for Parliament to pass on the colonists. They were created to raise revenue in the colonies to pay the salaries of govenors and judges. They were placed on the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
The British Army open fired on unarmed colonists. They killed 5 colonists and injured 6 more. The colonists revolted against the British's harsh taxes and laws placed upon the colonists. This happened in Providence Massechusets Bay Colony. -
Tea Act
The Parliament passed another tax on the colonists the Tea Act. They only passed the tax to reduce the massive surplus of tea they held in their wharehouses. This act was also revolted against towards the British. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty dressed up like Native Americans to revolt. They took over a large British boat and bought many barrels of British tea and poured the tea into the Boston Harbor. While on the boat they yelled, "No taxation without representation". They revolted to show the British they wouldn't pay anymore taxes. -
Intolerable Acts
The Parliament passed yet another act on tye colonists. This time they stripped Massachusetts of self-governmentand historic rights. The acts were passed in the colonies to suffer without self-government. They only did it because of the Boston Tea Party. -
1st Continental Congress
Delegates from 12 out of the 13 colonies, 56 men (Georgia was not present) to discuss what should be done about the Intolerable Acts. It was held in Carpenter's Hall Philidelphia. They held a petition to appeal the Intolerable Acts but they had no say in what the Crown said. They also urged every colony to start and train a malitia.
