Prime minister Grenviile proposed the stamp act. this act required colonists to pay for an official stamp,or seal, when they bought paper items. Colonists who refused the stamp act could be fined or sent to jail -

The sons of liberty formed on a ship in massachusetts when british tax collectors seized the ship liberty and the ships owner was angered by it so he attacked the house of custom officials in protest. in response the governor brokr up the massachusetts legislature
