Cell Theory

  • Invention of the microscope

    Invention of the microscope
Zacharias Janseen invented the microscope that was used to view the cell walls.
  • First discovery of the cell

    First discovery of the cell
Robert Hooke examined very thin slices of crock in the magnified microscope and saw for the first time the cell walls. Hooke was the one that named the cell.
  • Anton Van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
Anton Van Leeuwenhoek created better lenses for his microscope, that allowed him to saw the first living cell, he made this discovery in a pond water. He also was the first person to see and describe the bacteria.
  • Robert Brown

    Robert Brown
This scientist discovered that the plant cells had a nucleus and explain the importance of the nucleus in the function of the cell.
  • Matthias Schleiden

    Matthias Schleiden
He discovered that all the parts of the plant organisim are composed of cells.
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
He had a very similar statement as Schleiden, but he also conclude that not only plants are composed of cells. He discovered that also animal tissues are composed of one or more cells, saying that the cell is the basic unit for all organisms.
  • Rudolf Virchow

    Rudolf Virchow
He establish that cells only come from other living cells.
  • Cell theory statements

    Cell theory statements
Thanx to all the discoveries there are three important statements that are part of the cell theory.
    - All living things or organisms are made of cells.
    - New cells are created by old cells dividing into two.
    - Cells are the basic building units of life.
