  • Mier y Teran Report 1789-1832

    In 1827 President Guadalupe Victoria named General Manuel de
    Mier y Terán to lead a scientific and boundary expedition into Texas.Their job was to observe the natural resources and the Indians,and to determine the United States‐Mexico boundary between the Sabine and the Red rivers.Illness and muddy roads delayed the commission, and the general remained in East Texas until January 1829, when they started for Mexico City.
  • Fredonian Rebellion 1826-1827

    The Fredonian Rebellion was a dispute between the Mexican
    government and the Edwards brothers, Haden and Benjamin.Edwards forced settlers who could
    not proved ownership, both Anglo and native Hispanics, to
    move or pay him for their land.This naturally offended the older settlers and the following year, Mexico canceled his contract. Edwards made an alliance with Cherokee Indians and declared the "Republic of Fredonia" independent of Mexico.

  • Guerrero Decree 1829

    The Guerrero Decree abolished slavery throughout the Republic of Mexico was issued by President Vicente R. Guerrero on September 15, 1829.It is not fully understood why Guerrero issued this law. When decree reached Texas the political chief, withheld its publication because it was in violation of the colonization laws.On December 2 the Mexican Government notified the governor of Texas that no change would be made respecting the slaves in Texas.
  • Law of April 6, 1830

    The Law of April 6, 1830 was designed to stop the flood of
    immigration from the United States to Texas, which came as a result of the warning Mier y Terán Report.The law forbade the further introduction of slaves into Mexico,and intended to suspend existing empresario contracts.the Texan viewpoint, which was not
    included in the Mier y Terán Report, was to prohibit immigration
    from the United States.Austin was able to convince the Mexican government to limit some parts of the law.
  • Conflict at Anahuac 1827

    His job was to help the collector of customs and prevent the en‐ trance of immigrants from the United States in accord with the re‐ cently passed Law of April 6, 1830.
  • Turtle Bayou Resolutions

    The Turtle Bayou Resolutions were signed by settlers during the Anahuac Disturbances, which played a role in the secession of Texas from Mexico and the creation of the Republic of Texas. The Texas rebels had just learned that the Federalist army had won a significant victory under the leadership of Antonio López de Santa Anna. They explained that their attack against the fort at Anahuac was not Anglos attacking a Mexican garrison.
  • Battle At Velasco

    The battle of Velasco, a prelude to the Texas Revolution and probably the first case of bloodshed in the relations between Texas and Mexico, took place on June 26, 1832. The settlers fought the Mexican forces at Fort Velasco, who tried to prevent the passage of the boat carrying the cannon. The Mexicans were forced to surrender when they ran out of ammunition It is es‐ timated that Texan casualties were seven killed and fourteen wounded and the Mexicans had five killed and sixteen wounded.
  • Convention 0f 1832

    The Convention of 1832 was the first political gathering of colonists in Mexican Texas. Delegates sought reforms from the Mexican government and hoped to quell the widespread belief that settlers in Texas wished to secede from Mexico.

  • SFA goes to Mexico City

    Austin delivered the petitions to Mexico City and argue for their approval. After un‐avoidable delays, he persuaded the government to repeal the Law of April 6, 1830, and to promise important reforms in Texas local government.Convinced that he had left nothing undone even though President Santa Anna simply would not approve state government for Texas.Austin was arrested at Saltillo in January, under suspicion of trying to incite insurrection in Texas, and taken back to Mexico City.

  • The Consultation

    The Consultation served as the provisional government of Mexican Texas from November 1835 to March 1836 during the Texas Revolution. Tensions rose in Texas during early 1835 as throughout Mexico federalists began to oppose the increasingly centralist policies of the government.
