Constitution of 1824
Constitution of 1824 it was similar to the U.S Constitution but it was also similar to the Spanish Constitution of 1812.The Catholic religion is the official religion and state lawmakers voted for the president.After Mexico gain freedom from Spain they needed a constitution to rule their country.People who involved in making the Constitution were Stephen F. Austin and Mexican leaders.They past this Constitution without the vote of the people for ratification. This document was made in Mexico. -
Fredonian Rebellion
Te rebellion Revolution was a dispute between the Mexican government and the Edwards Brothers which were Haden and Benjamin Edwards. Haden Edwards received a grant on April 14, 1825 that named him to go on a voyage and settle over 800 families to Nacogdoches in Eastern Texas. Edwards made an alliance with the Cherokee Indians and declared the Republic of Fredonia Independence of Mexico. -
Mier y Teran Report
In 1827, President Guadalupe Victoria name General Manuel de Mier y Teran to lead a scientific and boundary expedition to Texas.Their job was to observe the natural resources and the Indians, to discover the number and attitudes of the Americans living there, to know who has better control over Texas. -
Guerrero Decree
The Guerrero Decree revoke slavery throughout the Republic of Mexico was made by President Vicente R.Guerrero.no one knew why Guerrero made it but it is thought he may have hoped the decree would be a check on American immigration. That Guerrero was president he was able to make this law. Also the rest of the government agreed to this rule. -
Law of April 6, 1830
The Law of April 6,1830 was designed to stop the flood of immigration from the United States to Texas.The reason why is because Mexico was questioning it's control over Texas because it was full of Anglo people. The Law of April 6,1830 was past by Mexican officials and President Anastasio Bustamante. Austin protested the this law and was able to convince the Mexican government to limit some parts of the law. It said you can not have slaves and suspend existing empresario contracts. -
Conflict at Anahuac
Juan Davis Bradburn came to the mouth of the Trinity River on Galveston Bay with orders to establish a Garrison and a Town on October 26, 1830. His job was to help the Collector of Costumers and prevent the entrance of immigrants from the United States. There were problems with Ship Captains refusing to pay tariffs. -
Turtle Bayou Resolutions
On June 12, 1832 settlers opposed to the rule of Mexican commander John Davis Bradburn fled from Anahuac north to the crossing on Turtle Bayou.Texans had learned that the Federalist army had won a lot of victory.Taking advantage of this news they sided with the Federalist cause by composing the Turtle Bayou Resolutions.They were to attack against the fort at Anahuac was Federalist sympathizers opposing a Centralist government as part of the civil war for 2 years wanting the Constitution of 1824. -
Battle of Velasco
The Battle of Velasco took place on June 26, 1832, was
maybe the first case of bloodshed in the relations between
Texas and Mexico.Henry Smith and John Austin were in charge of Texans.They fought at Fort Velasco and the reason they fought is because Texas wanted their freedom from Spain. Texas won because they had a cannon.The Texans had 100‐150 and the Mexicans had 91 to 200 troops.The Mexicans had to surrendered.Texan had 7 killed and 14 hurt and the Mexicans had 5 killed and 16 hurt. -
Convention of 1832
The Convention of 1832 was held at San Felipe de Austin after
the Anahuac Disturbances, the Battle of Velasco, and the Turtle
Bayou Resolutions. The convention adopted of resolutions requesting the extension of tariff exemptions, modification of the Law of April 6, 1830, to permit more general immigration from the United States, donation of government lands for the maintenance of primary schools. -
Convention of 1833
The Convention met at San Felipe on April 1, because it was the day that Antonio López de Santa Anna got control of Mexico.About 65 delegates attended. Wharton presided over the convention which petitioned for repeal of the anti‐immigration section of the Law of April 6,1830.Delegates also wanted to split Coahuila and Texas, Assuming that it would be granted.Why they wanted that is because then Texans would not be ruled by anyone. -
SFA goes to Mexico City
The Convention of 1833 voted Austin to deliver the suit to
Mexico City and argue for the approval.He urge the government to remove the Law of April 6,1830, and troth important reforms in Texas government.He had nothing undone even though President Santa Anna would not approve state government for Texas.Austin was arrested at Saltillo in January, under suspicion of trying toincite insurrection in Texas.No charges,He was prison. December 1834, when he was released but could not leave Mexico City. -
The Consultation
The Consultation was held in San Felipe in late Oct. into early
Nov. of 1835.Wanted to continue a diplomatic relations with Mexico, led by Austin and the side that wanted to immediately declare independence, led by William Wharton and Henry Smith.3 issues dominated Consultation deliberation the purpose of the war, the power and structure of government, and the virtues of different leaders.The Consultation established a provisional government upon the principles of the Constitution of 1824.
