Constitution of 1824
Who: Stephen F. Austin met with the Mexican leaders and Erasmo Seguín.
What: Meeting for the development of the Constitution of 1824.
Where: Mexican Texas.
When: October 4, 1824
Why: An important step for Mexico’s independence from Spain.
How: Making the official religion Catholic. Three branches of government similar to the US. State rights were not defined and due to the lack of leadership this Constitution was not enforced. -
Fredonian Rebelion
Who: Haden and Benjamin Edwards.
What:Dispute between the Mexican government and the Edwards brothers over land.
Where: Nacogdoches, Texas,
When: April 14, 1825.
Why: Edwards made existing settlers who could not show that they owned their land to move or pay for it.
How: Mexico cancelled the Edward’s land grants. Edwards made an alliance with the Cherokees, but when the Mexican Officers arrived they left. -
Mier y Teran Report
Who: General Manuel de Mier y Terán.
What: Scientific and boundary expedition to study the numbers and attitudes of Americans living there and natural resources.
Where: Sabine and Red river areas.
When: November 1, 1827.
Why: Determine boundaries between Mexican and US borders and determine how many Americans were living there and if they liked it.
How: He made observations and then wrote a report saying there were too many Americans and Mexico might be losing control. The report became a law. -
Guerrero Decree
Who: Guerrero Decree
What: He got rid of slavery in Republic of Mexico.
Where: Throughout Mexico.
When: September 15, 1829.
Why: No one is sure why, but thought that this would be a type of check on American Immigration. Texas refused to follow this decree because they were told they could keep their persons and property.
How: The decree was never followed in Texas and left the Americans feeling like their rights were not safe. -

What: The law of April 6 1830 wasn't well informed because Stephen F Austin convince the Mexican government to limit parts of the law.

Who: William Tavis
What:Ship captains refused to pay tariffs and when anglo settlers William Travis and Patrick Jack was arrested .

Why: The ship captains imprisoned anglo settlers .
How: Bradburn tried to prevent the entrance of immigrants

Turtle Bayou Resolutions
Who:Santa Anna
What:They were trying to return the constitution of 1824 .
Where: Texas
When:June 12 1832
Why: The centralist government was trying to start an civil war that they were planning for two years.
How: Rebels took advantage of them knowing that santa anna caused the victory of the federalist and decided to compose the turtle bayou resolution. -
Battle of Velasco
Who: Henry Smith
What: The Mexicans surrendered to the battle of velasco
Where: Brazoria
When: 1832
Why: The settlers fought the mexican forces to try to prevent the passage of the boat carrying the cannon.
How: Henry Smith went to Brazoria to retrieve a cannon . -
Convention of 1832
Who: De Austin
What:The large settlements of Victoria refused to send delegates and made it seem like the only the colonist from the us were dissatisfied.

Why: The general law permit immigration from the us
How: The Texans wanted to separate statehood from Coahuila.Also they wanted to organize a militia and committees of vigilance. -
Convention of 1833
Who: Sam Houston
What:William presided over the convention which petitioned
for repeal of the anti‐immigration section of the Law of April 6 1830
Where:Texas
When: April 6 1830
Why: William became one of the new delegates because Sant'anna took control over mexico.
How:William asked for more adequate Indian defense, judicial reform, and improvement in mail service and passed resolutions prohibiting African slave traffic into Texas. -
SFA goes to Mexico City
Who: Stephen F. Austin
What: To repeal the Law of April 6, 1830 and make important changes for local Texas government.
Where: Mexico City
When: July 1, 1833
Why: He was hoping to make changes that would positively impact local Texas government, but he was arrested under suspicion of trying to incite insurrection.
How: He left before the changes were made and later arrested and spent time in various prisons. He was finally released, but not allowed to leave Mexico City. -
The Consultation
Who: William Wharton, Henry Smith,Stephen F. Austin.
What: The Consultation which was a debate between Stephen F. Austin who wanted to keep diplomatic relations with Mexico and William Wharton and Henry Smith who wanted independence.

Why:The focus: war's purpose, the power/structure of government, and the virtues of different leaders.
How: a government was established based on principles of the Constitution of 1824 and Sam Houston was in charge of the army.
