French and Indian War
This was a war between Britain and the French to claim the Ohio River Valley. The colonists helped Britain, and the Indians helped the French, and the British won, and claimed the land. -
Sugar and Stamp Act
These were taxes put on the colonists after the war, because Britain was in debt because of the war. The colonists got taxed on many things with a stamp in it. As a result the colonists started protesting and smuggling, which if the British caught them they'd get punished. -
Townshend Act
They were taxes placed on imported glass, lead, paints, paper and tea, to pay for the military expenses and salaries of governors. The patriots started boycotting the goods, and the loyalists would search for smuggled goods. Britain ended up sending more troops to the colonies to restore order there. -
Boston Massacre
This was a riot between the colonists and British soldiers where the soldiers shot the colonists. The colonists harassed the soldiers which led to them to shoot at the colonists, because of this Britain looked at them selves and took away all taxes except for on tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Britain only kept the tax on tea, but the colonists were still unhappy about it. So patriots dressed up as Indians, and went onto a boat filled with tea, and the patriots dumped tons of cases of tea into the Boston Harbor. This event caused the British to make the Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Act
The intolerable act were 5 acts to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. These acts payed a big tole on the city of Boston mainly, and because of that the colonists organize a meeting called the Continental Congress. -
First Continental Congress
Representatives from colonies met to discuss the way they were being treated by England, and what they should do about it. Britain was bullying Massachusetts, so the other colonies would meet to discuss it. The Britain was worried about it, and made sure the colonies didn't break away from them.
