Southerners were concerned about california being add a a free state, they didn't want a un-balance of free states to slave states.It was amitted as a free state, so congress on September 18, 1850 passed the fugitive slave laws and abolished the slave trade in Washington, DC, on January 1, 1851 -
The Fugitive Slave Law
The fugitive slave law was used for slave owners to get their run away slaves back. This law allowed slave hunters to capture free slave who couldn't prove they were free and sent them back to slavery. This caused more active among the abolitionist with the underground. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harrett Beecher Stowe. The portrayed perspective that the book was show from was from a black man who was a slave whose christian values spur him through a path of suffering & the separation from his family.This fueled the sprit of abolitionist and showed the crueltly of slavery to people who live in other places then the south. -

When Dred Scott decided to get his freedom, he decided to sue for it.The verdict handed down by the supreme court is that black slaves weren't citizens. Also,that they could sue and didn't have rights. Abraham Licholn disagreed with the vertict, thet "all men are created egual" by the Declaration of Indepentance. -
John Brown's reid on Harper's Ferry
One accomplish of John Brown was his raid to free slaves. He hoped to assist and guide slaves in their escape from the south. On October 19, 1859 the rebels and Robert E. Lee founded and killed the arsenal. John Brown was captured, tried and charged with treson, Slave insurrection, and murder. He was killed on December 2, 1859. -
The election of 1860
Abraham lincoln and Stephem Douglas are running again as president of the US. Abraham lincoln was the only canidate that wanted to abolish slavery completely. He won with the electoral and the majority votes. He became the 16th president of the US.
