Causes of the American Revolutionary War

  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    The Navigation Acts told the colonists that they could only trade with another country of Great Britain. They were not allowed to trade with the French Spanish or Native Americans. This later on led to smuggling.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation prohibited the colonist from moving west past the Appalachian Mountains. The colonist disliked this because many of their friends and family members died fighting for that land. Therefore the colonist didn't gain any land so the people were very crowded in the towns.
  • Sugar and Molasses Act

    Sugar and Molasses Act
    British needed money to pay for the war, therefore they began taxing sugar which was a major import for the colonist. After the British started taxing sugar the colonist decided to boycott some British goods.
  • Quartering Acts

    Quartering Acts
    This act given to the colonists by the British Parliament told the colonist that they had to provide the British soldiers with anything needed such as clothes water food and clothes.

    The Sons and Daughters of Liberty protested to help boycotts.

    This act placed a tax on any paper that was printed. this means the every time you printed a paper you had to go get the stamp of approval on it to prove that you paid the tax on it.

    The declaratory act whole colonists in America that the texting was the same and the new America's as in Great Britain . Parliament directly tax the colonies for sugar and paper.

    Start of taxes on many goods including glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea.

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers and colonists stood around 10 feet from each other and shot at one another. Only five soldiers were killed.

    The committee's of Correspondence were a network of communication for passing along news of the British activity to the colonies.

    The Tea Act was placed on colonists by Great Britain. It plays taxes on all the tea coming into the colonies. this led to boycott from the colonists.

    During the Boston Tea Party colonists dressed as Indians and boarded a ship that was in the dock that was carrying tea, and they threw the tea boxes over board.

    The Intolerable Acts also called the Coercive Acts that were harsh laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774. They were meant to punish the American colonists for the Boston Tea Party and other protests.

    The French and Indian War also known as The 7 Years War, was started when the French and British were fighting over land, but mainly the Ohio River Valley. The Ohio River Valley was important because it was the main trading post in the New World. After the war of 7 years the British won and both sides ( French & British ) signed the Treaty of Paris.

    The First Continental Congress consisted of 13 delegates one from each colony except for Georgia. The First Continental Congress met to discuss and organized Colonial resistance to the Intolerable Acts.

    The Second Continental Congress managed the colonial war effort. It later on led to the colonies adopting the Declaration of Independence.
