  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Ship's crews had to be three-quarters English. Products not produced by the mother country such as cotton, tobacco, and sugar. They could only be shipped to England or other English colonies.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Started in Ohio Valley by George Washington against the French. Both sides wanted to trade with the Indians to get the land. The French built forts to protect their trade with the Indians. The French had lost, and all of its land basically belonged to the British now.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Prohibited colonists from setting west of Appalachian Mountains. Colonists disliked the process.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    Taxed all legal documents and printed papers. Was viewed as the highest revenue-building tax. This made the colonists boycott even more.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Britain asked colonies to host 1500 soldiers and supply them necessities to live. This made the colonists flat out refuse. The British soldiers also had to sleep on their ships.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    A declaration by the British Parliament to repeal the Stamp Act. They had directly taxed the colonists for revenue on the Sugar Act.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Levied a tax on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea. Also authorized writs of assistance.Called for more protests from the colonists, and smuggled illegal goods as well.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Boston citizens were angry at the sight of red-coated soldiers on the streets. Then, citizens began throwing random arrangements of items at them and the soldiers started to fire. This made the colonists more angry, along with more protests.

    Committees of Correspondence
    Network of communication for passing along news of British activity to the colonies organized by Samuel Adams. This was also formed in other colonies.

    After Boston Massacre, colonists stay calm. Britain repeal the Townsend acts, but kept the tax on tea. The colonists were angry that one company total was a monopoly in trade, East India. The response was the Boston Tea Party

    Tea was cheaper, but the law cut colonial business out of money. East India becomes a monopoly. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and dumped tea over the ships. This caused the colonists to split, tea protest began wide, and colonists must submit or triumph.

    The British are determined for the colonists to behave, severely limited town meetings, Boston Port is closed, called trials in Canada or Britain, forced colonists for soldiers to live in their homes. This made the colonists to rebel.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Sons of Liberty had set up a committee in each colony made up of anti-British leaders. Paul Revere's first ride tried to personally invite everyone to a meeting to plan a unified response to Britain.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This had began the revolution. Men and women fired and helped. The colonists had 300 people help out, they kill 273 soldiers. The shot heard around the world.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Had 1000 minutemen marched to Bunker Hill. The Patriots surrounded Boston on every side. Patriot's could not shoot until they saw the soldiers because they were low on gun powder. British had won.

    The delegates from the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia. They announced that George Washington was chosen to be the leader. They sent an Olive Branch Treaty to the King, and he rejected it.

    In his writing, he explained that people must fight against the unfair and unjust ways of the British, including King George the third and the Parliament. He was setting forth his arguments in favor of American Independence.

    Molasses, which was a major source of money, was taxed. They also forbid colonists from trading with any other nation. From that, it angered the colonists. That's when they started to boycott British goods, and smuggled.
