  • The French And Indian War

    The French And Indian War
    The French and British had the most territorial disputes within North America during this war. Both countries wanted access to the profitable fur trade business and the cheap fertile land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Although the British lost majority of the initial battles they ultimately won the war. The war caused relations to worsen between the British and the Colonists. The colonists were angry with the Proclamation Line of 1763 and the taxes they were forced to pay.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The British Parliament passed the Sugar Act in 1764 in order to help pay for their debt from the French and Indian War as well as to pay for the troops guarding the Proclamation Line of 1763. It forced the colonists to pay a 3 cent tax on goods like sugar, coffee, indigo and certain kinds of alcohol. The colonists were not happy with this law because they had no say in parliament. The slogan “No Taxation without Representation” became popular in the colonies.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act in 1765 in order to support the British soldiers protecting the Proclamation Line. The Stamp Act made you buy a stamp purchased by the British government had to be placed on all important documents. The colonists were outraged because they were paying for troops that were keeping them out of the land they had just fought for in the French and Indian War and they still had no representation in Parliament. This led to an increase in colonial protests.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    A well-organized political organization shrouded in secrecy that was established to undermine British rule in colonial America. This group spang up in port cities like Boston and NYC. Group member were men from all walks of life, and they were known to be hot headed and violent.
  • Townsend Acts

    Townsend Acts
    Description: The Townshend Acts taxed imported items such as paper, glass, paint and tea. The English Parliament passed this act to cover costs of the French and Indian War, as well as to show that they still had power over the colonies. The colonists were outraged with this act so they held public demonstrations, boycotted products and smuggled in goods. Parliament eventually decided to repeal this act because of colonial protests.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre started when some colonists were mocking a British soldier. The captain Preston was telling the soldiers not to not to fire. Someone hit a soldier with a club and then someone called out from behind ¨Damn your bloods why don't you fire” and the soldier who got hit with a club fell over and shot his gun. The other soldiers thought they had to shoot. Only five people were killed and the colonists were mad. After many days of trial the British won.

    The Tea act was put in place because England was going through great national debt. The colonists were only aloud to buy England's tea instead of trading with other companies. Then the daughters of liberty were boycotting England's tea and made there own tea called liberty tea.

    The Boston Tea Party was apart of how the tax was placed on the tea by the british and the colonists still did not like it. The colonists were dressed up as native americans so the british wouldn't know it was them. They went to the ship and dumped out all of the tea. They threw the tea into the Boston Harbor.

    Intolerable Act
    The intolerable acts are a british law that allowed tax collectors and british troops in to peoples homes. The law also allowed the collectors and the troops to search their homes, Seize ships, and businesses without warning or a warrant. The colonists were not happy about this decision because they had no say.
  • The Continental Congress

    The Continental Congress
    The Continental Congress was a meeting were all of the colonies joined together. It assembled in Philadelphia 1774 where important political men in the colonies were there. The meeting started and ended Sep 5th to Oct 26th 1774. The men talked about all the stuff that was going on like the Boston Massacre. The congress sent a petition to King George the petition saying they were still loyal to him and to England. It also said that it was unfair that they were passing laws without their say.
  • Battles of Lexington and concord

    Battles of Lexington and concord
    The battle started when the soldiers were coming but when the soldiers came there were 900 of them. The first shot was the shot heard around the world no one knows who shot it first. But the colonists didn't win this battle. Then the British went to to the colonists stash of weapons but everything was gone. The British went to Lexington and then the British were outnumbered colonists and the colonists won.
