Britain Prohibited colonists to settle west of the Appalachian mountains. This made the colonists angry because they had just fought in a war for that territory. -

Britain taxed all sugar and molasses that the colonists bought. The colonists were even more angry and boycotted British goods. -
Quartering act
Britain asked the colonists to quarter 1,500 soldiers. The colonists refused to quarter them. Most soldiers went back to the ship, but some took houses by force. -

All legal documents and printed paper was taxed. The colonists tared and feathered the stamp agents that were sent to enforce the tax. -
declaratory act
The British Parliament stated that its taxation power is the same in America as it is in Britain. Colonists completely ignored the act for a celebration of the repealing of the Stamp act. -
Townshend act
A British tax on glass, lead, paper, paint, paint, and tea. The colonists boycotted the British. -
The Boston massacre
Five people were killed by British soldiers in the town square of Boston. The colonists got very angry at the British. -

Britain gave the East India company full control of the tea. The colonists started the Boston Tea party. -

The colonists attacked three British ships and dumped British tea into the Boston Harbor. The colonies split and protested tea. This made Britain completely against the colonies. -

Boston port is closed. Town meetings are limited and all trade is sent to Britain or Canada. The colonies unified and formed militias -

The Second Continental Congress managed the colonists war effort. -
The first continental congress
Members were elected. 98% of trade to Britain was cancelled. The colonies stopped following British law. -
The shot heard around the world
Minute men hid and shot at the British soldiers as they marched through Lexington and Concord. -
The Battle of Bunker hill
1,000 minutemen defended Bunker hill and this is were the quote "Don't fire 'till you see the whites of their eyes" came from. The colonists lost the hill. -
Thomas Paine Common Sense
Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet explaining why the colonies should separate from Britain.
