French and Indian War
Starting in 1754, this is a war between the British and French with allied Native American forces. Commonly known as the Seven Years War, the French and Indian War as mainly a territorial land dispute that turned into a world-wide war and resulted in the French being completed diminished out of North America when ending in 1763. -

Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III and it was the removal of French territory in North America and it set a boundary line along the Appalachian Mountains so settlers could not settle past the line. It was meant to stabilize the relationship between Britain and Native Americans for trade. This realy only benefited Britain economically, all for money. -
Sugar Act
This was a tax by the British put onto the Colonists and it taxed all products that contained sugar. It was imposed by Parliament to tax sugar, wine, and other things. Palriament wanted more money to provide more security and expensive war efforts against the Indians and other countries. The significance is that this angered the colonists to rebell and repeal the tax on sugar. -
Stamp Act
A tax delcared by Parliament on the colonies that put a tax on all paper items, such as newspapers, documents and magazines but could only be paid in British money not Colonial money which meant more money for Britain. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act impsoed by Britain stated that Colonists had to let British soldiers Quarter, or live in their houses. They have to feed bathe and cloth the British soldiers, basically let them come in your home and use all of your assets and you are not getting paid for it. The significance is that Britain was letting their soldiers into the homes of colonists and this was meant to anger the colonists which it did and it was repealed later on. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament had the authority to declare law over the Colonies. It was issued after the Stamp Act was repealed due to British trade being affected. The significance is that it agve parliamant the ability to levy and pass taxes on colonies which they did and it was one of the reasons for the Revolutionary War. -
Townshend Revenue Acts
The Townshend Acts were published by Britain to raise revenue to pay the judges and governors after the colonies were failing to comply with the Quartering Act. It was a tax on glass, oil, lead, paper and tea that would raise money for the British. The significance is that British was taxing all of these necesities for the colonies in order to make more money off of the colonies. -
Boston Non-importation Agreement
60 merchants had signed the non-importation agreement which stated that until the Townshend Revenue Acts were repealed, they would not buy anything. It stated that Parliament selfishly used taxes and levying them. Critical supplies such as salt, hemp, duck were exempt from the boycott. The merchants and boycotted the goods that were under the Townshend Revenue Acts, soon Tradesmen and Craftsmen were following behind the boycott. -
Boston massacre
The Boston Massacre was the killing of 5 colonists at the hands of British soldiers. The British soldiers were antagonized by the colonists and rocks/snowballs/oyster shells were being thrown and clubs were being swung. The threats of murder and stealing the King's money were being shouted. Gunfire killed 5 colonists and furthered anger and hatred of British soldiers. -
Tea Act
An attempt by the British to regain control of the Tea trade in N.A. Many colonists were boycotting tea and were smuggling it. The British has tea that they still had to sell and this heightened the price of tea due to smuggling. After passing, this gave complete control to the B.E.A.C of the tea trade. It was a monopoly for the British and many colonists did not like the tea being produced by the Dutch and if so they did not want to pay the high tax for British tea. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when Colonists dressed up as Native Americans and dumped the British tea into the harbor. Some group of 50 men disguised as Mohawk Indians with 342 chests of tea open and being dumped into the harbor. The tea was very expensive and the colonists did not want to pay the high prices for the tea. The significance is that the British would get payback for having high taxes on the colonists without representaion in Parliament. -
Patrick Henry "Give me Liberty or Give me death"
Patrick Henry gave a speech that proposed to organize a company of infantry in every virginia colony. His final statement in his speech "Give me liberty or give me death" was something the audience had never forgotten. It had shown how much the colonists were done with the British controlling them and how desperate people were to self-govern or have their basic essential rights. -
Battle of Lexington & Concord
Militiamen quartered in Boston were sent out to Lexington and Concord to fight the British Redcoats and was the start of the Revolutionary War. The tensions were building between Britain & the Colonies. It wasn't until 1783 that the colonies won their independence. The significance is that this started a war and it's the reason that America is America.
