A small group of people who wanted a constitutional monarchy tried to overthrow Nicholas I. He executed 5 leaders and exiled more to siberia -
Alexander II emanicpates the serfs.
Alexander II let the serfs go. He did it to modernize Russia and make it more equal, giving him more support. Giving the Russans more freedom, probably made them crave even more. -
Assasination of Alexander II
Alexander II was assasinated by a person from the group later called the Bolsheviks. Alexander III later took the throne, causing more unrest. The assasination showed the Bolsheviks that they could succeed the power easily, as long as they took over after. -
Russo-Japanese War
Russia thought Korea was a good place to take because of water ports. They attempted to steal it from Japan, but got defeated. It caused great economic hardships, increasing tensions. -
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday happened when Nicholas II leaft his soldiers with the command to open fire on protesters. They did so on very peaceful protesters. It was unfair to kill those people, and angered many citizens. -
Revolution of 1905
Unrest started to grow as people decided Bloody Sunday was unfair. Nicholas II was forced to create the Duma. He made people think they had power, but when they realized they didn't, they weren't too happy. -
March Revolution
The March Revolution was mainly a mini-revolution supported by everyone. It all started because the people were mad at the war and lack of food. The revolution let the people kick out the Czar, and mainly start over. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicates the throne
After the March Revolution, Nicholas II was forced to give up the throne. Once he heard that, he didn't hesitate that much. Him leaving let the Russians set up their own Provisional Government, which the Bolsheviks didn't like. -
World War I
In WWI, Russia didn't do so good. Their troops didn't have weapons, their people didn't have food, and their economy was decreasing rapidly. The Provisional Government still didn't want out when the people did.
