The Treaty Of Paris
The Treaty of Paris(1763) was signed by the French and Brtish on February 10th, 1763. It marked the end of the French and Indian War fought along the Ohio River Valley. Also, it basically removed almost all French occupancy in North America, as well as giving the Spanish that territory, and giving the 13 Colonies Florida. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act is when the British Goverenment forced all of the colonists to pay a 3 cent tax on sugar. The Sugar Act also increased taxes on coffee, indigo, and wine and angered the colonists because the tax was forced.This occured in 1764 in Britian. -
Creation of "Writs of Assistance"
Writs of assistance were written orders given by a court marshall to the a law enforcer to do a certain thing. In most cases(in colonial tmes) it gave British officials the right to search a colonists home for smuggled goods, and other things that were ruled illegal by the Navigation Acts. The colonists protested that this violated their rights as British subjects. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a law passed by the British Parliament requiring all publications and legal and commercial documents in the American colonies to have a tax stamp. This occured on November 1, 1765 in Britian. The purpose was to raise $60,000 yearly in the colonies, to help support the cost of maintaining British troops. The colonists had no representation in Parliament which caused trouble between the two. -
Declatory Act
The Declatory Act was a proclamation that reinforced parliament’s law-making power over the American colonies. It clarified the relationship between Britain and America, The Declatory Act allowed the British Parliament to begin issuing several Acts against the United States. British did this because they felt that the act would improve the empire. The happened on March 18th, 1766 in America. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts was created on July 2, 1767 in Britian. These laws placed new taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Colonists were enraged because of these taxes just as they were to all of the others. Britain eventually repealed all the taxes except the one on tea. The Townshend Acts was named after Charles Townshend, a British Chancellor of the Exchequer. -
Boston Massacre
On March 5th, 1770 the Boston Massacre occured. It is called the Boston massacre because it happened in Boston. Massachusetts. and because 5 men were killed by British soldiers. The colonists were protesting the British occupancy of Boston and throwing snowballs at the Brits. This resulted in violence breaking out,and British soldiers firing at colonists, which resulted in five dead colonists. -
Tea Acts
The Tea Acts were signed by Britain on May 10th, 1773 , and what they mainly did was force the colonists to buy the tea which was taxed by the Townsend Acts by giving the British East India Company the right to sell the tea they had been burdened with in the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
On the night of December 16th, 1773, The Sons Of Liberty gathered and dressed up as Mowhawk Indians and dumped 342 barrells of Brtish tea in the Boston Tea. This was done in direct protest to the Townshend Acts which taxed the tea, and the Tea Acts which gave the British East India company control over the tea trade. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
After several long years of rebellion, the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought on October 18th between the British Redcoats and the unorganied militia of the colonies. About a year after this, the Declaration of Independence will be signed.
