Causes of Revolution

  • Navigation Acts

    Governed commerce between Britain and its colonies. Designed to protect British economic interests in colonial trade, and protect from the Dutch navigation trade.
  • Currency Act

    prohibited the issue of of new bills in Rhode Island, Massachusetts Bay, New Hampshire and Connecticut.
  • Sugar Act

    It increased the taxes on molasses. It enforced the navigation acts by providing the vessels to directly transport cargo to the colonies. It was strictly enforced through the vice admiralty courts.
  • Quartering Act

    Required the colonists to provide food and housing for the British soldiers.
  • Declaratory Act

    Stated that the colonies are subordinate and dependent on the Imperial Crown and Parliament of Britain and that Parliament had the authority to pass laws.
  • Coercive Acts

    In retaliation to the Boston Tea Party, it shut down the the port in Boston, until they paid for the lost tea.
