  • Fugitive Slave Act

    A law that gave people the ability to punish runaway or escape slave and anyone who helped them to be punished to. This is important cause it made slavery stricter
  • Creation of the Cotton Gin

    A machine that separated cotton from its seeds. Its significant because it made the work easier and faster.
  • Ban on Slave Importation

    No new slaves were not to be imported into the US. This made their be less slaves in the US, so less slavery.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Anyone above the N 36 30 line was a free state anyone above it was a slave state. This was important because it preserved the balance between free and slave states in the senate and it marked the beginning of the sectional conflict, that would then lead to the civil war.
  • Nat Turner Rebellion

    One of the most deadly rebellions, the group killed 60 white people and rampage lasted 3 days. This gave other slaves hope that could also start a rebellion
  • South Carolina Nullification Crisis

    When tariffs were put on the North and South the north benefited from them but the south not so much. The south found the tariffs unconstitutional and wanted to nullify them. This is important because this was one of the first things to happen that made the North and South disagree with each other.
  • The Underground Railroad

    Was a network of secret passages to the north used by escape slaves who were aided by abolitionists or people who didn't want slavery. This is important because Harriet Tubman usually used the railroad and she is the first slavery rights activists.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    A proposal to ban slavery in the territory won in the Mexican-American war. This is important because it increased tensions between the north and south.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    A treaty to end the war between mexico and the US. This ended the conflict between both countries
  • Compromise of 1850

    The compromise made the Fugitive Slave Act amended and the slave trade in Washington D.C. abolished, it called for California to be a free state, popular sovereignty in Utah and New Mexico concerning the question of slavery and the federal assumption of Texas's debt. This is Important because it showed that compromise wasn't a good solution to the sectional conflict.
