    Stamp Act 1765
    The Stamp Act was made to provide the funds to meet the costs of defending the large British Empire. The result of everything being taxed caused outraged colonists. They started refusing to use the stamps by stamp burning, riots, and intimidating the colonial stamp distributors.

    The Townshend Acts 1767
    The Townshend Acts were passed by the British in an attempt to exert authority over the colonies. They put taxes on tea, paper, lead, glass, and paint. Unfortanly the colonists did not agree with this and they responded with physical violence and began to overt acts of anger toward the British government.

    There was a mob of angry colonists and a small army of British soldiers that was feeling threatened. Nobody knows which side fired the shots first, but five people were killed and the soldiers were charged with murder.

    The colonists had finally had enough of the tax on tea, and that is how the Boston Tea party began. They went out on the ships that contained over 10,000 dollars worth of tea and dumped it into the harbor.
