    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was the involvement of pro- slavery, and anti-slavery states. The Missouri Compromise was a parallel, and to the north their was no slavery. South of the parallel was slavery. The senate made the Missouri Compromise to balance the power between the north and the south. The Missouri Compromised happened at the border of Missouri and Louisiana.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot proviso involved David Wilmot and happened in 1846. David Wilmot attempted to get rid of slavery in the new territory they acquired in the mexican american war. Because David Wilmot felt that slavery was wrong and should be banned in that area. The cause of the proviso was that people felt that their newly gained land should be a non slavery state and not have slaves, which eventually led to the dispute in the states which caused the Civil War over slavery.

    The Compromise of 1850 was a series of 5 bills that were passed. California wanted to become part of the Union, or the free states. They made the Compromise of 1850 for New Mexico to become a slave state to keep the balance between the north and the south. The Compromise of 1850 was just a temporary fix to the whole problem.

    The Fugitive Slave Act was put in place on September 18th 1850. They created the Fugitive Slave Act because many of the slaves from the south were escaping to the north.The Fugitive Slave Act allowed slave owners to recapture their slaves, and bring them back into slavery.This made the slaves made because they thought they would have escaped to freedom, but really they could just be recaptured. This was all caused because they slave owners were mad that their slaves were running away to freedom.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriett Beecher Stowe. The book explained the horrors of slavery. Many people in the north didn't know how bad slavery was in the south. After the south found out about how bad the slavery was they knew they needed to do something about it. The event involves the north, and the slaves. This is because the slaves are experiencing all of this, and the north is finding out about all of these horrors.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act / Bleeding Kansas

    Kansas Nebraska Act / Bleeding Kansas
    The act involved Kansas, Nebraska, and Congress. It also took place in Kansas and Nebraska. Because people were unclear on Kansas and Nebraska being free or slave states and how they should vote.it could change the balance in congress for free/slave represents on the board. The cause of the act was that people wanted popular sovereignty to be how states voted on slaves but it ended up being something that went against the Missouri act and congress had to repeal it and put a new act into place.
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    In 1857, the United States Supreme Court decides on the issue of seperating the country between those who favor slavery and those who oppose slavery. The Supreme Court ruled that according to the Constitution, slaves were strictly property of their owners and can never be U.S. citizens. After the Supreme Court's decision, slavery could happen anywhere in the United States.
  • Lincoln Douglass Debate

    Lincoln Douglass Debate
    The Lincoln Douglas Debates was a debate between Abraham Lincoln who opposed slavery, and Stephen Douglas who was a supporter of slavery. Lincoln was not widely known at the time of this debate. This debate played a huge role in the future because after this debate, Lincoln is widely known and establishes himself as a leader of the Republican Party. This helps him win presidency in 1860.
  • John Brown Raids

    John Brown Raids
    John Brown was a abolitionist. He had gone to Kansas and participated in the "Bleeding of Kansas". He had also killed 5 pro-slavery forces. Brown went on a mission to attack a US arsenal, take all the weapons, suppl them to the slaves then rebel. All of his men were either captured or killed though which means his plan was a failure. The North thought of John as a hero but the South think of him as a terrorist and realize that the anti-slavery movement was growing rapidly.

    The event involved Abraham Lincoln, the other candidates, and the people voting. Because the US had to vote on a new president for the US. It took place in virginia. Lincoln made many big decisions while in office. The cause of the election was that the US needed a new president for office, which eventually led to the north winning and the south feeling that they had been beaten when he won.
  • Southern Secession

    Southern Secession
    It involved the north and the south commissioners. The south threatened to leave the US when Lincoln took office. Because the south felt as if they had lost when Lincoln won. The cause of the secession was the south feeling as if they had lost to the north involving slaves, which led to conventions being held in each state and then within four months 7 states had joined to secede from the US.
